Enough people have serious problems with the coded garbage from Microsoft, not being able to use the gamepass. They can pay for it, but can't use it become of some issues that only seems to appear on the minority.
I myself can't use the microsoft store to run the games , not even on fresh installed windows 10 (one of the many reasons why they moved AoE 4 to Steam aswell.
It looks like Steam is the better choice.
You did not miss much, I tried the trial time...and it just confirmed that aoe4 is not worth more than $10, or $15...after almost a year they did not fix the issues that were at launch...buggy, crashes, and its boring...with less variety, and complexity of upgrades than aoe2:de..in other words, avoid it!
This junk crashed on me 6 times in an hour on average, with a build with much higher specs than recommended ones...
In case of AoE 1, you had a campaign exclusive to the demo version. In AoE 2, you could play the tutorial as well as a scenario with 3 players.
