Impossible to Defeat AI - Forced to Surrender to end game.
Hello,
I regularly play Multiplayer and litterally every game we have difficulty ending the game, sometimes impossible, we search the map for hours trying to find enemy Bases, Units, and even after we have searched the map over and over again for any leftover A.I. , the game doesnt finish until we are forced to surrender, (completely breaking the plot). Sometimes we are able to find 1 farm so the AI can surrender but in other cases its simply impossible.. There is nothing left on the map I can assure you. I think a good feature to add would be to see enemy units on the maps, Like in Age 2 where we had the possibility of seeing ressources, Combat units. Either that or Simply command the enemy to surrender when it has become useless (like in age 2) (1 farm left for example).

Any feedback is appreciated, Let me know if you are having same issue.

Set the game to Landmark, you're on conquest. AI runs one or two scouts around until you eventually entrap it.

Landmark, you crush the buildings and win regardless of how many units are left.

If you play in the "Co-op VS A.I." mode, you can win in 3 different ways:
- Destroy all enemy Landmarks (first town center + the buildings you need to age up)
- Control all the Sacred Sites
- Build and defend a Wonder
There is never a need to kill everything the AI has.

So I only have 2 explanations for your problem.
You play in Custom with Standard Mode and create games, where you deactivate all 3 standard win conditions.
Or you play Custom with Sandbox-Mode (endless) instead of a Standard game.

Play "Co-op VS A.I." mode.
Or, if you prefer "Custom", make sure you play in Standard Mode and that at least one of the 3 win conditions is activated.

Edit: I checked your profile in Aoe4.
You have 4 games in your match history. 3 of them over 2h long. All of them standard custom. If you win it always says "Annihilation Victory". So you must have unchecked all 3 win conditions, making total annihilation the only option to win.

Exactly, guys, this is (one of) the reasons wonder/sacred victories exist. Wonders are too expensive for a balanced situation. But if you have a significant lead, it's a way to force a conclusion. Sacred sites work in a similar manner, but not every map has them.

If your OCD demands total annihilation against the AI, divide the map into quadrants with walls and clear them in turn.

iTS more rewarding to end a game with total Annihilation, But the last units are extremely difficult to find, and sometimes as I said "Impossible to finish". Is there some way a feature can be added?

We have noticed, the AI ceases to move its units when near defeat. this renders the task of clearing even harder.

Theres nothing worse to having to surrender a game due to what we think is a bug where the Ai is unfindable.

Im not the one who hosts the games, but I'm pretty sure there is a win condition, we cleared all AI's tonight but it was hard to find the last remaining units. As mentioned previously it would be nice that a feature be added where we can sort out different unit types on the minimap. For example a minimap filter for Military Units, or simply enemy units.

Just enable standard winning conditions my dude. To avoid precisely what you are complaining about. Why waste 2 hours per game when you can kill 3 Landmark buildings within 30 minutes and win...

If it is particularly satisfying to play complete annihilation then don't complain it takes 2 hours to find every unit on the map.

There is probably one horse joy riding on the map somewhere. You must find him, and kill him!

I'm curious. Why do you think total annihilation is more rewarding? For me, it feels more like beating a person, that is already on the ground.
I'm not judging, just curious. Play the game how you like it. Spending 2h with friends is nice, if all of you have fun.
Personally, I would rather win by Landmark-Victory and play another match with my friends.

But you are right. More features are always good. Give it time. I'm sure they will add more in the future.

Palisades, make sectors, clear each one. It does not matter where you start, its always in the last area. :P
Not sure if there's tower / wooden fortress limits but they often pick off the last scout for me in AoE2.

LOL, what about creating a labyrinth and play packmann with the AI :')

You could also turn off the fog of war and make the whole map visible, if you really dont want the 3 win conditions.

It doesnt really change that much, the AI always knows where the player characters are on the map, so turning on Revealed is more like evening the playing field when going up against AI

We've ran a few games and it seems some stuff was fixed in the last update.

It would be nice having some Map features added.

Landmark victory is realistic too. Wars weren't won historically by slaughtering ever civilian and burning every farm of your enemy. Wars were won by sacking their capital. That's basically what a landmark victory simulates. If you can't hold onto your palaces and stuff, you've basically lost all power as a king or whatever.
