i think AOE 2 is more like Starcraft, but some others might have a different, and better, take on it.

Lol ♥♥♥♥ no it isn't.

For one, Starcraft was a balanced game that had fundamental counters to every unit.

AoE4 is an unbalanced POS.

This game is more like Warcraft 3, here each faction is unique and it's not like in any of previous AOE games. So decide do you like medievil settings without magic and fantasy creatures?

Starcraft factions are extremely different from one another. Why use Warcraft as the comparison? And no this game is NOT more like Warcraft 3 than Starcraft.

If you've only ever played Starcraft you've done yourself a disservice, there are loads of great RTS games out there. If you have access to Xbox Game Pass that can be a good way to try the game. Otherwise as others say look at some videos or streams of people playing it.

I enjoy this better than Starcraft and find balancing 4 resources instead of 2 more interesting. Plus multiple win conditions can make for some exciting twists.

Ignore these people, it is similar to starcraft, its just a different style of gameplay. Starcraft is just more refined and focused around the balance of 3 completely unique factions. The concept of this game though is the same, you have workers that gather resources, said workers build up a base, you then build defenses and a army and destroy your opponent. This game does have a pretty good balance of rock paper scissors type deal where if your opponent runs a pure cavalry army it will get completely wrecked by cheap spearmen. Everything is good a killing a type of unit and is vulnerable to specific types. Where the game itself gets unbalanced is the factions themselves. Some factions like lets say the french have VERY powerful bonuses that late game making them monsters, such as the guild hall that over time collects a single resource and the more stored in without taking any, the bigger the resource gain is, and if you do lets say gold which tends to be a very very valuable source you need for expensive units and such, late game becomes pretty scarce. Let this building sit for a while and poof you can hit collect and have a god awful amount. There are various other bonuses too but thats one of the biggest and why i like the french.

AOE4 isnt a bad game at all, just needs to go through the balancing steps that many other games we praise spent years going through. Starcraft used to be a heaping mess too.

If you are searching a competitive RTS game, Aoe 4 is CURRENTLY not what you're searching for.

I won't dive into the differences in game design between Sc2 and Aoe4, the most obvious being the "not so asymetrical" factions in Age of and the progression of technology in age of.

The main issue is that, for now, Aoe 4 is not finished; no way to customize hotkeys, unbalanced as hell, no map ban, no ladder, no patrol order, clumsy controls... Maybe it will eventually turn into something good, but you should definitively wait before going to try hard it if you're not an age of hardcore fan.

Seriously man...
Asking to ignore the answers of others just to say "it's the same thing but actually no" how big is your ego ?

And ? you still lack the options to change hotkeys, to pause ingame, there is still no ladder and no map ban. I still think the game is unfinished in this state.

And if you love starcraft you might like AoE4 since all the starcraft pros seem to... that is the OP's question.

Yes it is the same style RTS game. It is similar enough, so a lot of your skills from SC2 are transferable.

I love Starcraft and I don't like Aoe 4 for now... And I don't know how do you managed to figure that "All" starcraft pros like it.
Still my point is there is bad things about the game that will hopefully be fixed. OP, be warned.
