i would say it would do more harm than good, as you need to micro your scout in the early game to get sheeps and can use scouts later to spot the enemey approaching give you valuable seconds to bring your troops in. newer player would put the scout on auto and loose a lot of worth making it a newbie trap

Wouldn't work here for the reasons Hawk mentioned, scouts just work differently here in that they are essential for your early eco.

They also might trigger attacks. I forgot about that.

The scout is actually way more important in AOE2 (except Rus / Mongols).
-Push deer
-Steal boar
-Support the dark age militia opening
-Support feudal age man-at-arms opening
-Kill skirms which counter your archers

Scout in AOE4 is waaaaaaaay weaker.

Oh, is there a key to get the scout to let go of the sheep so they stop following him?

Yeah as a casual player I never cared nor will I ever care about pushing deer and stuff like that. In AoE 2 the only thing I'm using the scout for (as well as 99% of the playerbase) is finding sheep, my boars and exploring the map. And no, I don't think that any of the things mentioned are important to the majority of the playerbase, you can just play the game without doing any of those things. In fact that's exactly why the auto scout exists in AoE 2 and it's a great feature.

Compared to that in AoE 4 using the scout is how you keep your food production up even when you're just playing casually.

I tell the scout to go near my TC and then drag a selection box over the sheep and task them on my TC. if there is any easier way I'd love to know :p

You just right click on the TC when the scout has sheep on him. Once the scout's there the sheep will automatically stop following.

Yes but does he drop off the sheep really close, or do they still have to run a bit?

Because the way I do it, the sheep always end up right next to my TC. and that is handier for food delivery by the vills.

I keep finding myself looking for the auto-scout button. Needs one 100%.

You're free to adjust them however you want, it's just the most optimal way to drop them off, you can still control them after that.

The problem is, I keep forgetting. :P
I gather the sheep, send the scout to my TC, but when they get there I immediately send the scout somewhere else, forgetting to release the sheep, so there I have my scout going halfway across the map with all my sheep in tow. ;P

Though TBH, I haven't found that I really need sheep. I manage plenty of food without them.
