Why does AOE 3 seem better then AOE 4?!?

Graphically the game almost seems worse then AOE 3s graphics. Mind you I have a high end PC. Next up the game doesn't seem to have much meat to it, as in content. The controls seem a bit weird also. Also not sure why the game crashes sometimes. Only once for me mine you. A game that looks like this shouldn't be crashing.

I haven't really had any "Man I am loving this!" moments while playing so far. Tried the story, tried skirmish. Just feels very "Been there, done that" to me. Maybe I'm just picky or something but I don't think the game is worth its asking price.

All relative, if you are not loving it then I would suggest not playing it or buying it. Personally I am loving it a lot and prefer pretty much everything about it over 3.

I enjoy AoE4 just as much as I enjoyed AoE3. I really liked the physics and graphics of AoE3. Never got myself into playing AoE2 DE because I was already hooked with AoE3 and despite the nostalgia of AoE2, I felt I would be going back to an inferior game.
I really prefer AoE4 because it doesn't have some of the design flaws of AoE3 but if I want to compose a list of what I liked about AoE3 that AoE4 is lacking here it is:

1- More diverse maps. Not just mechanically, but also aesthetically. I especially miss the diverse wildlife of AoE3 maps. AoE4 can't really hold a candle in this regard.
2- Physics was better implemented in AoE3 than AoE4. The cannons in AoE4 are subpar in their physics compared to AoE3, which is a shame considering how old AoE3 is.
3- Water units and battles. Water units are just an afterthought in AoE4.

AOE4 is the AOE3 most of us AOE2 fans wanted back in the day. The gameplay is much better in this than AOE3 imo.

I enjoy both games. They are both excellent. I still play the original 1997 Age of Empires as well.

Compared to aoe3 DE the unit designs in aoe4 do look a bit more simplified, but that's probably more of a intentional design choice. Whether or not which is better is probably more a matter of taste than anything else.

yeah, it looks better and runs smoother, glad to have made the upgrade for sure. good riddance clunky 90s tech that thrashes memory and looks like a toybox. I do miss the physics though.

Basically the only things I miss from Age of empires III are the physics and water reflections (or rather how the water is both see-through and reflective at the same time).

I have never played any AOE games before - So to me AOE 4 is perfect and very good - l love the doc videos and that ladies voice ha :) - I don`t see anything wrong with the game - But for old players I can do understand - It`s like COH 3 i tried the tech test of that - Game play wise its the same I have both other Company Of Heroes games - It is also the way it`s presented that matters to me not just the game play - To be fair when you buy Call Of Duty / or any BF game - You know you are in for more of the same - Just like with AOE 4 - give the game a chance soon we also have mods

I kinda agree dude, this game feels lackluster, seems each civilisation in 3 had more to them per civ. This games good and bad, a strong mix of both.
