Any tips for the Abbasid?
I know they are a ramp up civ similar to India that is great at countering cav and light armor units, but I cant seem to get them to work. I usually spam camels/heavy infantry supported with camel archer and siege late game. Turtle until I get to castle age.

It doesn't seem to help me get the edge as often as I like. Also (even after getting the habit of putting first keep around wonder) my wonder gets cheesed very easily with a ram train wall breach and cav or heavy infantry storm, mostly from Chinese.

you can only turtle into castle age if you're doing so effectively against feudal rushes. if you're losing to rushes make more cav/defenses and camel archers as needed. once you get to castle age the lancer/camel archer combo is good for being aggressive and also good for defense. if they're making lots of cav then make camels. infantry is only good if you have good defenses and are able to push them without being raided.

abbasid can have a very good early boom. You can build 3 towns early and boost workers.

Haven't tried getting more than 1 until castle. Guess old aoe2&3 habits die hard. I'll try going for some early stone next time

Uuum, you will need to survive until u reach Imperial age. Then you can have cannonneers and cannons to pick them one by one xD

Are the canonneers better than crossbowmen against them, or equally good?

just like in aoe2, camels trade some of the general purpose ability for a direct cav counter. I find even fully armored camels are not very suited for frontline on their own against heavy infantry, archer masses, and other heavy non cav units.
Thats why abbasid get the infantry camel armor bonus.

You should check this 5 essential tips video for this civ. It doesn't give you build orders or strategies and it might only contain stuff you're already familiar with, but it's worth checking out.

Things people miss about abbasids:
-Your infantry can build rams right from the start of the game. So if you early rush with an ally it can be particularly damaging.
-The trade techs are really strong. - The imperial age one allows you to get any extra resource you want on trades. If the map is right and my defence is good I like to build 4-6 trade posts, spam up the carts and after a while my economy outpaces everything. I can then delete most of my vills and just focus entirely on my military.

guns hit a bit harder and since accuracy isnt a problem they do a bit better, assuming you have no special archers like english
