If you like the standard AOE gameplay, AOE4 is better.

I would say AoE3 is much better and interesting than this one, if you are in for fast paced multiplayer. The campaign in this one seems more interesting, although civilizations are rather meh. Of course, as this is a new game the community at this point is also bigger than for aoe3.

AoE3 DE is better.
AoE4 is like AoE2, but without all the things that made AoE2 actually better than AoE3.

It's up to the individual. I love AOE 2, like many people, but I wouldn't touch AOE 3 with a 10ft pole.

The main strength of AoE3 - home city, heroes, etc - was what set it apart. Some hated it - particularily the competitive multiplayer crowd. If you're a casual player who prefer a sense of progress between missions, AoE3 is better.

AoE IV builds directly on AoE2, which had the bigger long-term success and more popularity with the competitive crowd. As such, if you are more into that, AoE IV is better.
(AoE2 has had a lot of DLC and such, which has made it richer, so there's that, but AoE IV is obviously planned to be more than the base game over time.).

These topics are so stupid, honestly, it's a matter of taste, since this game is a lot of fun as well. Just enjoy the new game, learn the mechanics, the new things and have fun with it.
