AOE2 and 3 are both much better games than this
AoE4 is like AoE2, but without all the things that made AoE2 actually better than AoE3.
It's up to the individual. I love AOE 2, like many people, but I wouldn't touch AOE 3 with a 10ft pole.
AoE IV builds directly on AoE2, which had the bigger long-term success and more popularity with the competitive crowd. As such, if you are more into that, AoE IV is better.
(AoE2 has had a lot of DLC and such, which has made it richer, so there's that, but AoE IV is obviously planned to be more than the base game over time.).
