camel archer, how to conter that ?
Hello, we lost a 2 vs 3 game (they were 2) because dude was doing 150 camel archer, and nothing seems really effective against 300 Hp fast moving distance cavarly with 95 hp slow archer

Elite Knights and siege weapons, Knights have lances so they have charge bonuses while Horsemen are designed for infantry counter I believe.

The best counter are archers. They have longer range and allow you to play by your rules. Same goes for Horse archers and Mangudai

Best early counter in feudal is archers. Best counter once you get to castle age is siege. Spam springalds, mangonels, or bombards with something in front just in case they add in melee units. Well actually don't spam mangonels but adding 3-4 with other stuff is pretty good.

They're not really direct counter to knights. Cav archers do pretty low damage to knights and lose decisively if not microd. Now you might be thinking "just kite the knights then", but he didn't write knights, he wrote knights+siege. It works fine, camel archers can't just kite when 2-3 of them instantly die every time they walk within 12 range of you.

Sure, they are not the best counter, but they are direct counter in a sense that they literally can kite and damage Knights (or Villagers) as long as they want without getting any damage.

he suggested "Elite Knights and Siege". Do you really think that any sane person will do all upgrades for one of the most expensive units and then spam it together with other very expensive units (siege) just to counter a bunch of harassing camel archers (which will never be a core unit of the army btw, they are either a small harass squad or a support unit)?

Imagine suggesting that instead of a bunch of very cheap archers, which build faster and simply outrange Camel Archers making them stay away from you.

WHAT?? SIEGE AS SUPPORT UNIT??? HAVENT YOU SEEN THE LAST TOURNAMENT?

thats exactly what they are, a really hardcore mass killing support as long as you have knights or other unit you meatshield them but they can easily have a primary role in your army, specially springalds

Camel archers are support, not siege. Can you read?

Fortunately finally an armor matters in AOE IV so give them armor to fire at while regular archers though insanely costly imo (wood I mean) will have not just range advantage but they are smaller so they can fire in larger numbers in comparison to cavalry archers camels are more spread.

"Dude was doing 150 camel archer".

It was clearly a core unit of his opponents army. They weren't just harrassing him or standing there to provide the anti cav buff. His opponent managed to get a full 150 of them, so I think he could have afforded knights and siege.

Considering what he was playing against, I'd probably recommend archers and siege instead of knights and siege, or maybe maa+siege because it is a bit overly heavy on gold. but its not like knights and siege gets hard countered.

Either way the answer is siege. I suspect the camel archer player was probably better than him and his teammates, so I don't think archers would have worked unless he was like English or something. Siege is so cost effective against them that it would at least force a transition.

So, since you specifically said 95 HP and 300 HP this is obviously post-imp situation. Archers are not effective at this point once camel archers are fully upgraded. For comparison's sake, Archers have 13 attack, 1.5 attack speed, 5 range, 95 HP. Camel Archers have 20 attack, 1.25 attack speed, 3.75 range and 300 HP. The range difference is more than made up for the attack, attack speed, speed, HP and cavalry reduction. The way how armor works also benefits the camel archer. Best direct counter to camel archers are siege + meatshield. Knights are usually the preferred meatshield although MAA or even basic archers can do. Handcannoneers are also an option since they will win a shootout pound for pound.

Although really Abbasids would probably win a siege war if he transitions into culverins.

I've totally fked up reading OPs post and didn't see, that he said 150 camel archers.

Yes, I agree now.

150 of anything (but scouts and villagers) is difficult to counter I guess.
Zweihander Nov 19, 2021 @ 12:31am
No, I can guarentee you that if I have 150 man at arms it will be extremly easy to conter them
