However, the devs should probably introduce a very easy difficulty at some point, for people who are just starting out or want a simple relaxing game after a hard day at work.
As long as you are constantly producing vills at all times and sending them to resources you should be able to afford to at least get a couple military buildings to train a small force to fend them off. On easy they will only ever send smaller raids, and don't seem to train many villagers so their economy will be weak.
You could try playing as the French and have some fun ruining their economy early on. Just focus on gold and food, ignore wood, and you can get to feudal very quickly. Then build a few stables and start mass producing knights, sending groups around the back of their base to pick off villagers and deny them resources.
I agree with you. I played the AI on easy mode and got my butt kicked. The AI was really aggressive... I guess I need a lot of practice...

These are good youtubers who offer good advice. One of the advice is, go to the art of war part of the game, and play through the two economy tutorials. It does a good job of getting you into the mindset you need to do well in the game.
I was also surprised by intermediate AI being tough, but to be honest - first time playing the game, intermediate SHOULD be a problem - if it wasn't, the AI wouldn't have a hope of being a reasonable challenge when you've actually played a bit.
Hi, sorry i dont want to get better i want to get fun playing on easy mode, but thanks.
This is what I was going to say, and to make it easy the "g" by default tells all villagers selected to seek closest buildings for shelter, this keeps villagers alive and let's you kill enemies than there is a return to work button so they all go back to last job, very easy.
Practice in sandbox, just make believe oh I need to save these farmers, send to a building than, okay now I need to head back to work, send them all back.
Once you learn the keys it will become second nature.
Then I was able to fully wall myself up and get to Age 4 while my longbowmen on top of walls killed his knights and rams he occasionally sent at my stone walls. He never progressed past Age 2 despite being given plenty of time. As soon as I went out my base I steamrolled him he only had like 3 buldings and only wooden walls.
Either you are very new to RTS or you had some freak event happen with the AI or I did?
I just don't want the easy AI to be further nerfed when it's already brain dead based on my experience.
I'm not trying to be rude.
EDIT: I've not tried intermediate maybe that will still offer reasonable difficulty if easy gets nerfed for people who don't use hotkeys. Fair enough in that case I understand your concerns.
