Easy mode to diffecult
Hi,

I try to play relaxed agains an AI on easy mode to learn the game, but the enemy keeps on with enemys try to destroy everything within age 1 and 2. I can't farm and build anything like this. Even when I build a Giant wall they will find a way to destroy it. I could not counter it with solders because i could not farm with all the incomming attacks ever 1 second of the start of the game. I dont call this game mode EASY.

On age of empires 2 easy mode was really relaxed enemy just farms a lot of food/wood and just did not attack at all... I have played age of empires 2 a lot so i know how this game works. but 4 has some new things that i want to learn and try to use in a battle. (With an AI that protect himself)

I want to be better at the game but like this i just cant even play it lolz.

Edit Note: I have found that intermidate is more EASY then the 'easy mode' because AI starts to build things instat of attacking ever 1 min from the start of the game.
Now i tryed with 1 friendly ai and myself vs 1 intermidate enemy. the 2 pc keeps fighting each other and i can calmly build and farm.

I was just playing it to rush a mastery, but I imagine a new player trying to learn basic economy would get frustrated. Easy AI shouldn't be able to early rush. I think intermediate is actually easier to deal with somehow.

There is a sandbox mode with no enemies if you just want to learn the buildings and stuff.

Have you tried the art of war challenges? It teaches you how to manage your economy early, it's quite useful. With a bit of practice on build orders and booming etc I'm sure you will ace it.

I have only played one round yet, that on easy difficulty, and I was too surprised at first seeing how quickly the AI started harassing me. In the end, I found the difficulty pretty on point, I have achieved a holy site victory, it wasn't boring but I also didnt feel overwhelmed like being constantly on edge.

However, the devs should probably introduce a very easy difficulty at some point, for people who are just starting out or want a simple relaxing game after a hard day at work.

If it's a small raid, just garrison in your town center and you can clean them up quickly. If there's literally just 2-3 weaker units, you can attack them with a few villagers and lure them to your TC to get finished off. The main tip is DO NOT PANIC! It might seem overwhelming when you start getting alerts of enemies in your base but as long as it is only a small raiding force they won't be able to do a whole lot of harm.
As long as you are constantly producing vills at all times and sending them to resources you should be able to afford to at least get a couple military buildings to train a small force to fend them off. On easy they will only ever send smaller raids, and don't seem to train many villagers so their economy will be weak.

You could try playing as the French and have some fun ruining their economy early on. Just focus on gold and food, ignore wood, and you can get to feudal very quickly. Then build a few stables and start mass producing knights, sending groups around the back of their base to pick off villagers and deny them resources.

Def as mentioned above try the art of war challenges! Also watching videos/Playing with others will help a lot! One of the basic tips is to always try building settlers early on, a bit more than you think you need so you have a solid income for some early game units :ss3dHeart4:

2nd hardest diff (intermittent) is the way it was designed to play and the speed of the multiplayer will be the same or similar just like in starcraft II

I started on intermediate, after not really playing an AoE game for a long time. I wouldn't have considered myself a complete noob but damn the description definitely makes them sound easier than they are. You just have to be ready for earlier rushes with some military or you'll have to garrison all your units in the town center.

I agree with you. I played the AI on easy mode and got my butt kicked. The AI was really aggressive... I guess I need a lot of practice... :steamsad:

I like a challenge, but I also like to play on easy as well, and with this game, easy is NOT easy. Easy should be easier like in AOE 2 def edition. For a challenge, it should be on hard, not easy

If you want to get better, here's a good place to start:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GvShVmB--E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SxaNwm591U

These are good youtubers who offer good advice. One of the advice is, go to the art of war part of the game, and play through the two economy tutorials. It does a good job of getting you into the mindset you need to do well in the game.

I was also surprised by intermediate AI being tough, but to be honest - first time playing the game, intermediate SHOULD be a problem - if it wasn't, the AI wouldn't have a hope of being a reasonable challenge when you've actually played a bit.

Hi, sorry i dont want to get better i want to get fun playing on easy mode, but thanks.

I find it rather easy to beat, but indeed I play on easy to relax and see what the game has to offer, instead I am forced to adapt to the AI aggressive way of playing ... at least add a Sandbox difficulty which stops the AI from attacking you, only defends base with some army.

Thank you

This is what I was going to say, and to make it easy the "g" by default tells all villagers selected to seek closest buildings for shelter, this keeps villagers alive and let's you kill enemies than there is a return to work button so they all go back to last job, very easy.

Practice in sandbox, just make believe oh I need to save these farmers, send to a building than, okay now I need to head back to work, send them all back.
Once you learn the keys it will become second nature.

Have you ever played another RTS/ AOE2 before? I can understand struggling if you are completely new to these games but I just played the AOE4 AI (on easy) for the first time ever and it was extremely easy. I was the English and they were the French. I am not a pro I have a low ELO (802)on AOE2 DE. The AI did not harass me before I already had a few longbowmen and all he ever did was make spearmen for a long time which my longbowmen easily mopped up.

Then I was able to fully wall myself up and get to Age 4 while my longbowmen on top of walls killed his knights and rams he occasionally sent at my stone walls. He never progressed past Age 2 despite being given plenty of time. As soon as I went out my base I steamrolled him he only had like 3 buldings and only wooden walls.

Either you are very new to RTS or you had some freak event happen with the AI or I did?

I just don't want the easy AI to be further nerfed when it's already brain dead based on my experience.

I'm not trying to be rude.

EDIT: I've not tried intermediate maybe that will still offer reasonable difficulty if easy gets nerfed for people who don't use hotkeys. Fair enough in that case I understand your concerns.
