Can you advance any civilisation to modern age?
So lets say you play as a civilisation that died off thousands of years ago can you advance it to modern age with unique units/structures? Or if you play as rome will you just automatically convert to a different civilisation in later ages?

Also what is max age?

This game stays within the middle ages all the time. It's a RTS game, not a civ simulation.

4 age,
until around year 1600. Gunpowder weapon exist.

They also announced there will be modding support on year 2022.
You can add more age if you want until we get DeathStar, I guess

Medieval game. There's 4 'Ages', rather that is just quick progression as part of base building, "Dark Age", "Feudal Age", "Castle Age", ,"Imperial Age", but it's mostly 14th-15th century in style.

It's mostly a fun multiplayer game. Campaigns to play through, a typical RTS AI to play against, but the real game is playing multiplayer.

I bet more single players than multiplayer for this game

I wish they would have gone that path, starting with the stoneage and then going from there. Each era should have a tree for those that want to stay within the specific era. Would have been such a blast to see cave people fighting knights. For me this game is just too safe, it's AoE2 with better visuals. Looking forward the next Age of Empire for sure and hope they dare to experiment more.

That was the task of AOE1. Every AOE has unique ages to deal with.

Originally AOE4 was supposed to represent early 1800s to early 1900s.

For that you have Empire Earth series.

you can build an experimental kind of tank called a battering ram, and an advanced LRM missile system called a trebuchet. Hope this helps.

The game you are looking for is called Empire Earth II.

Try Rise of Nations. It sounds like a game you would like. I think that it is excellent.
