No, it's a excellent game, with some flaws like every other game.
But a 83% positive review score and over 80k players playing it at all times.. generally speaks for it being far more than a cash grab.
As for the topic, while i find the AI to be decent.. the actual Unit AI needs to be refined no doubt.... i also dislike you can't make it keep formations while engaging...
Just to make it clear to you: I actually like the game a lot. Just because a game has flaws and someone points them out doesn't necessarily mean they don't like the game.
And I don't know whether Evigmae dislikes the game or not - because they did not say anything about what they think of the game in general. They just criticised a single aspect of it.
If you A-move they'll all attack the first target they see (usually the first enemy unit that comes on screen) and then spread out to the others after that first guy dies, usually targeting the next closest enemy units. Same if you just right-click on an enemy unit.
That's mostly how it works in other RTS games on this scale. You can make it a bit more interesting though. If you have horses you can pull them off to the side and do some hammer and anvil or flanking moves. You can also pick off HVTs with siege units.
If this game wasn't another entry of age of empires nobody would give a damn about it, most of these people are diehard fans trying to justify their purchase to themselves like the good little consoomers they are. Eventually the hype and euphoria of release will die down and these same people will realize the game is just a shameless cash grab riding on franchise popularity.
Many people argue that the bad path finding increases the skill cap since you have to micro the army yourself instead of a-moving ftw. The pathfinding and AI was worse in AOE2, this game is a step up.
The forum is rife with people having issues with the game and writing about it's abysmal features, like the lack of adequate zoom-out, lack of blood, poor performance, crappy visuals and unit/building proportions and so on.
Visuals looks clean to me to see what is happening in the game. Unit proportion complaints are actually dumb as much I have read.
