Scam?
The top negative review reveals this game is a scam and its not really "procedural". Whats the deal?

They aren't playing the game correctly. I think what a lot of people are doing is starting a NEW GAME instead of pressing Continue once they are done with a run. I literally have played through the game 5 times and each time I got completely new scenarios and choices. I'm saying I didn't get any of the same things I got previously in those 5 runs including how the game ended.

It is NOT a scam.

After one trip is over you have to press continue and not new game. Alot of players do the same mistake for some reason.

The review is accurate in that the game is not, actually "procedurally generated" and there is little to no of what could be called "dynamic" in the storyline. Your choices barely affect the outcome of the game and you have little to no say in most of the story elements, as most of them are on rails. You can not leave a location until you have played out those elements and they will appear again, in the exact same manner, in new playthroughs.

That seems like an unfortunate oversight by the devs. If a lot of people keep making the same mistake because the game isn't making itself clear enough, it should be fixed.

Again, I've done 5 runs and I haven't come to the same location twice. Also, there is an overarching story that your decisions do impact. I can't say much say spoiling but if you press continue you will see how your previous decisions changed things.

Neither I nor the reviewer are talking about unfinished games/storylines. We are talking about locations and story-elements encountered after finishing the game i.e. new game+ - i.e. replayabilty.

If you actually finished the game and played a new run you'd have noticed that the impact of your choices on the storyline is practically non-existent and play out basically the same regardless of your actions (apart from a handful of scenes which influence how the ending plays out). I even ecocuntered items at the exact same locations as I did earlier and combinations (i.e. the positions on Alex's radio/detector) are identical.

There's the timeline, there's the continue button, there's the foreshadowing in the episode ending in which Zoe tells the player that more people are trying to escape Petria, there's the X days to ELECTION DAY, there's the hook that there are more stories to see with all the characters. There's more than enough tips for the player to know that the story doesn't end at the first episode, bro

New Game + is totally another thing, if you made it to the end of the timeline to election day, all of your roads were procedural, you wouldn't see the same episodes in the same order that I did. The point of New Game + is for you to see each character arc go up to 100% and go to new places you couldn't before because you didn't have all the skills/abilities you needed
Phoenix Aug 22, 2021 @ 2:57pm
That isn't really what "procedural" means, unless I am mistaken, and is honestly beside the point as far as the review in question is concerned. The episodes are not so much "procedural" as they are randomized, and some encounters appear in a linear fashion (Zoyes for example).

Yeah, but I think making Zoe's encounters not linear could ruin the story of the game. It makes no sense meeting her near the border just for her being on the way to the border again. Some things has to be linear for a good story.

Fake Review?
Bruno Aug 26, 2021 @ 3:28pm
I bought it few days ago, definitely would recommend for at least 1 playthrough
Nytus Aug 26, 2021 @ 7:27pm
Also, it should be noted since some people seem to be confused...
A single "run" or playthrough of the game is not one nameless playable character making it to the border. There are six or seven episodes, each with a different teen making their way to the border. Only after all of these episodes play out is the game over and New Game+ begins. Every full run will include roughly 60% of the scripted scenes, so by the end of your first NG+ run, you will probably have seen 100% character and perk completion.
