Because it requires a lot of additional work. Different animation requirements. Targetting, camera collision, not to mention level design for first person is *ideally* different from level design for third person, since the players FOV in any given situation is different, so it might not be as easy to make sure the player sees the right visual clues, etc.

That said, they are going to look into it, it might be added down the line, but was too much work to get it done for early access release

From FAQ:

"Will the game support 3rd person view?

It's a bit too early to say whether we'll be able to add a proper 3rd person camera to the game (meaning: it's probably not going to happen for early access release but it's not entirely out of the question for a future update - we did some tests and they were quite promising, but still -- too early to say)"

It would be great if the player could choose between 1st and 3rd person view at some point.

Character creation in a single player game with hairstyles , Muscles , and faces that are just for the gear menu . Hilarious that so much work is put into that just to be seen in a gear menu and only a gear menu . Still Early access so it just might get better .

It's not that 3rd person is a bad thing, it's just something that requires additional dev time, and for a small team they may not have that time, look at Skyrim with a huge team and 3rd person without mods is objectively garbage.

People like to see their shiny bling in all 3d glory in games too, lol. I don't care for 3d person , but I can see some might and that's cool. I guess it's just a matter of resources, it's not as easy as switching something on in the 3d party engine. And if they know they can't do it right, at the moment, they definitely shouldn't do it at all cause then people will hang them for that too. Once they fix all the bugs and expand the world, and have nothing else to do that'd make sense. Business wise it makes sense, first person view fans are not in short supply at all!

i wasnt aware that you are the one that decides whats important issues and whats not to worry about. Im glad we cleared that up, or else i would be tempted to agree that a 3rd person view in a single player RPG is very high up on the list of what i want them to focus on.

They could do it like Vermintide does, a key that shows your character in third person. You can’t actually play in that perspective, but you can ogle at your gear. IDK, I just think it’s simple enough to implement without reworking the whole game, and it pleases everyone.
