Devs Wanted Thoughts On a Third Person Perspective
The devs mentioned possibly implementing third-person in the future and wanted thoughts on it. Personally, I’d love for first-person gameplay to feel like Kingdom Come: Deliverance before anything else—fully visible, highly animated body, and natural movement. Things like hand interactions, weighty movement, and immersive combat are what really make first-person feel excellent and grounded.

Right now, first-person feels very basic—just floating hands and not much else—so I’d love to see them really push it to the next level. If they do, this game could be one of the GOATs of first-person fantasy RPGs, maybe even surpassing Avowed.

As long as third-person doesn’t come at the cost of first-person quality, I’m all for it.

I'm a fan of 1st person, I like to be me and not a puppet, but I have nothing against the option for 3rd person.

Having a player option to choose between FPV and TPV would be ideal for any game, it means a significant portion of players who get 'game induced nausea' can play it.

That said two views does come at a cost (time = $$$), it isn't just a simple matter of moving the 'camera' back behind the avatar.

And there are well established threads on this topic here already, but you needed your own to rehash the same discussion?

Can you have third-person perspective option??

if only it had a third person option

And my fav, real charmer this one...
The third person form of the game is childish.

These are Tainted Grail threads (I stopped copy/pasting at page 5 of forum search results) containing posts by mature people\gamers who have articulated and argue their positions quite effectively regarding game induced nausea, or sim sickness, whatever you want to call it. Third person view (TPV) is the ultimate solution though not necessarily the only game variable that helps alleviate the symptoms: e.g. eliminating head-bobbing, motion blur, wider field of view, etc.

Nobody is asking for TPV only in these threads, but asking to let the player choose. However, your post OP screams of puerile entitlement, that you want the game "your way" and be damned of anyone else. Please attempt to correct me if wrong on this interpretation.

And oh, I do not suffer motion sickness at all in real life, not even on a small ferry after a North Atlantic gale when all others' faces in bags, but I do suffer game induced nausea.

Seems like my post struck a nerve. For whatever reason, you felt the need to link seven different threads—some of which you copy-pasted your own rant into—as if that somehow invalidates discussion. Repeated topics happen all the time in forums. Most people just scroll past them. But you? You saw this and thought, ‘Time to go on a crusade.’

And then there’s this:

'Your OP screams of puerile entitlement, that you want the game "your way" and be damned of anyone else. Please attempt to correct me if wrong on this interpretation.'

My post explicitly says third-person shouldn’t come at the cost of first-person quality. That is the opposite of entitlement. What’s actually entitled is thinking you have the authority to police what can and can’t be discussed just because you don’t like seeing the topic again. I don't know wtf your problem is to be frank. You're acting like I have direct say and influence over what the devs do. I don't even know if this thread will even ever get read.

You clearly do not appear to understand how forums are supposed to work. Can't help you.

I never asked for your help. Again, I don't know what your issue is? I made an innocent thread about my thoughts on third person. Not against it. I just want first peroson to be polished more.

I looked at your post history and for some reason you are going thread to thread acting like some kind of internet cop lecturing users on stuff. You're not a dev or a moderator. I don't know why you are apparently obsessed with disciplining users on how to act/post/talk on a forum. I've blocked you just fyi, if you feel like wasting more of your time responding to this thread.

The guy is just a troll, just block him as he has nothing useful to share aside from acting like he's on the developer's payroll and barking at any form of criticism raised towards the game.

Regarding third person I don't even understand what's to discuss frankly: if they were to add third person, it would be an ADDITION, meaning that people who don't like it get to play it in first person anyway, so... what's the problem?

I always play magic characters in third person in this sort of games, and melee or archers in first.
I prefer third person view over first person view.

"so... what's the problem? "

I guess I'll just copy-and-paste it form the devs themselves.

Would you be interested in a third-person perspective? :)
If so, let us know in the comments below! We’re not making any promises, but there’s a chance we’ll add this feature—if not with the 1.0 update, then possibly later through post-launch patches. To make sure it’s worth the effort, we need to hear from you first! :)

The thread is in response to this.

My ONLY issue with a third person would be:
first person remains the same due to them prioritizing third person animated movements over first person. So no visible body present, no potential immersive animations like grabbing items, things they could easily add later in. Why do I feel this way? Due to responses I've gotten from requesting third person in games like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. I was told third person is impossible due to the way the player model is animated and rigged from a first person perspective meaning third person wouldn't look right.

Avowed did this. And the third person looked completely terrible. Right now first person feels like it was a game released in 2006. Floating hands, FOV being super close-up, no realism like head bobbing or camera reacting to movement. So hence my first post. I'm fine with third as long as it doesn't prevent the feel of first person from improving from what it is now.

Man, you feel the way you feel and that's ok, but to wish that a game did not have an extra feature that others want just because you're afraid that it might take away developers from improving the game... that's not how it should work, you know that, right?

That being said, I'm not sure I understand the Avowed example. I played that game in third person in my first playthrough as a mage and I was just fine and having a blast.

Head bobbing is something that genuinely puts me off, but ok, that's taste and it's subjective.

One thing is not subjective, though? Avowed has a FOV slider, for people who may feel like it's super close-up. Maybe check that out.

" but to wish that a game did not have an extra feature that others want just because you're afraid that it might take away developers from improving the game... that's not how it should work, you know that, right?"

It's about making sure that implementing third-person doesn't come at the cost of improving first-person immersion. If they can have BOTH, then I am ALL FOR third person camera.

Many first-person games lack a full-body presence because animating and rigging a character model for both perspectives requires a lot of extra work. If they prioritize third-person animations, first-person might end up feeling floaty, disconnected, or outdated. You're essentially playing a levitating hand holding a sword. It's not immersive and it sucks. If they can avoid this AND have third person than I am all for it.

People don't realize that third-person and first-person models aren't just interchangeable. A great first-person experience requires:

A visible body (so you’re not just floating hands).

Realistic animations for grabbing objects, interacting with the environment, and movement.

Weight and momentum in movement, so it doesn’t feel like you’re gliding.

A proper FOV and camera system that reacts naturally to actions like running, jumping, and taking damage.

If the devs shift their focus to third-person, those first-person elements might get ignored or become secondary—because now, the priority becomes making the third-person model animate well, rather than making first-person feel immersive.

If third-person is just an optional exploration mode (like for riding horses), without interfering with first-person gameplay quality like during combat, then great! But if the devs prioritize third-person animations at the expense of first-person immersion, then that’s a real issue. It all comes down to execution.

at the moment devs are prioritizing console ports over anything else, including features they promised and are now not delivering, so... I don't think that first or third person is currently receiving any work anyway
Dear devs. Please add a 3rd person perspective
I'm definitely in a for a third-person camera post 1.0 launch as devs hinted.
