A lot of Side Quests are incredibly underwhelming
There are so many side quests in this game that just suddenly end without it actually going anywhere and I feel like I m doing something wrong

just as an example:
Eogans Garden Quest Line:
After getting him the pumpkin seed Eogan is just dead a few days later, you can destroy the pumpkin but it does not actually do anything - nothing happens
no other npc reacts to Eogan being dead, it is as if it never happened
I still have Eogans mysterious root as a quest item in my inventory and cant get rid of it, permanently taking up carry weight and there does not seem to be anything that is done with this item?
there are still a bunch of interactable crop plots in the garden but I cant actually do anything with them
it feels like this quest line ended abruptly without a proper ending, no reward and leaving a bunch of unfinished items behind

Wayward Son:
No matter what I do, Vin just dies as soon as I talk to him, and it feels like there is no actual conclusion to the quest, you can not even talk to denholm about what happened afterwards, it is as if nothing happened
you go through that entire quest for no reward and an outcome that is never adressed by any of the npc involved

the Witch/Pig Quest in Act 2 (forgot the quest name)
While talking to the witch I clicked the dialogue option where I agree with her, which just causes the quest to abruptly disappear from my quest log without an actual conclusion
there is nothing I can say to the woman who gave me the quest initially and there is no indicator that the quest was actually finished, it just disappeared
and the witch and the pig are bugged now, forever repeating the same old no longer relevant dialogue options

The Abyss:
After defeating the fae everything is just gone.
Was everything just an illusion? What happened to the friendly npc that was in there earlier? Did he never exist? There was an entire book series of the knights that came before him, did none of them ever exist?
Everything is just gone without an explaination

I've noticed some quests have a follow-up quest that you won't get if you make the wrrong dialogue decisions. Additionally there's a lot of quests that seem like they should be put into the "misc." category as they only serve to introduce you to characters or push you to explore certain areas. Just like any other open world rpg, some quests are going to be more interesting than others.

You're right. Youtube game reviewers are making this game out like it's the second coming of Jesus Christ, or at least a step or two above the usual Bethesda swill, but it really isn't.
It's the same "wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle" affair with Tainted Grail. Only this time the ocean isn't even really wide.
If you're coming to the game based on those reviews (Mortismal, Cohh, Wolfheart - plus lots of others who I honestly think have integrity, even though I don't always agree with them) you're going to be disappointed. I don't think they're doing the devs or the game any favors, tbh.

yea I suppose wayword son is probably just meant to introduce the related characters, but still I think that would have worked better if you were actually able to talk to those characters about what happened
I just finished Wayward son with a different outcome:

You can keep Vin alive, one of the other caskets in the tomb has a child's body in it. You can take that and lie to him that Denholm is not his father.
Dunno, I have other outcomes in these quest. So I think you just did or said something wrong.

I just tried the quest again and you are right, one of the graves had a childs body I did not loot
i still find it super odd though that if you dont find this the quest just ends without any
acknoledgement or dialogue option with denholm, all the npc just pretend like the quest never happened if you dont find this childs body

The ending was bit underwhelming indeed. As the Devs are experimenting with branches (some quests having really nice and surprising twists depending on player response) which do have an actual impact and offer interesting options for RPing, it would have been nice to for example telling Denholm that he might have a son still & Vin showing the skeleton - which would be best for the crows.
