Should i make a mushroom out of the king!?

I tried to kill the king, he drops some good armor for the mage. But making a mushroom out of him - just makes a mushroom out of him))) probably also saves the castle, but why is it needed, it's cleared. Maybe it somehow affects the ending!?

Basically you make him a mushroom you just lose out on his loot and thats about it
