PSA: I lost my saves and 40 hours of progress and successfully recovered it.

If this happens to you don't panic, what you need to do is use a program called "Everything" to search your file system for "PlayerPrefs.data". I found mine at:

"C:\Users\[username]/AppData/Local/GOG.com/Galaxy/Applications/[numbers]\Storage\Shared\Files\Saved"

Now, copy that entire folder, which should contain folders named with your save file names (such as "AutoSave_1, AutoSave_2, QuickSave_1, QuickSave_2...) and paste it in the following location:

"C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Questline\Fall of Avalon\[numbers]\Saved"

The [numbers] portion of that is just a bunch of digits that will likely be different for you than it is for me, but the point is the folder will already exist on your system, but the folders for each of the saved games will be gone, you have to copy them from the GOG.com location above.

Also, the [numbers] in the first address are NOT the same as the [numbers] in the second address...

Now... I don't use GOG.com... at all, so I have NO CLUE why my saved games were there or why I lost them from the correct location, but this happened after more than FORTY HOURS of playtime, when I was about half way through Act 2.

...and NO, I was NOT on pre-1.0. I was on version 1.0 and I lost all of my saves. This is happening, other people have said it is happening and were told confidently that they were on 0.9 and it was expected. I was not on v0.9. I did not buy or download the game until it was released at v1.0. I did NOT receive an update through Steam when I lost my saved games.

Literally just trying to help people who might have had the game completely ruined for them, because if I couldn't figure out how to recover my saves I probably would have never started the game again.

I have been hunting for my save files so I can back them up and I can't find them. I looked where you suggested and I cannot find them.

Ok... I found them. Mine were located in Hardrive/Users/(my user name)/AppData/LocalLow/Questline/Fall of Avalon/(bunch of numbers)/Saved. So mine were not in the Gog.com file (which I did find... and I don't use it either, so who knows).

That location is where they SHOULD be, but for some reason mine were moved to the gog folder... I had to move them back to the "Questline/Fall of Avalon" folder.

When I started the game it told me it had automatically set my graphics settings like it was the first time I had launched it and then I had no option to load or continue... just new game. So yes... my stomach dropped because I thought for sure I had just lost 40 hours of progress.

I did not attack you. I said that I haven't seen anyone else report a bug that you reported, and you were only complaining. On the other hand I posted this only to help people and MANY people have reported it happening to them.

Well just because you had not seen it did not mean it didn't exist and i fixed it.. I even said that in my thread before you jumped in it.. Glad we both fixed our issues.

according to the dev, sometimes the steam "hooks" fail to detect steam is running and it "defaults" to another save folder, seems to be steam>GoG>default location, so if you have GoG galaxy installed, it will use its folder, when the game finally detects steam on launch, it looks ONLY in the steam save location

That seems plausible, I suppose it is possible I had GoG installed at some point on this OS but I haven't used it in years. Oh, also, I wasn't getting steam achievements at all... but after this happened and I restored my saved games the next time I launched the game I suddenly got all the achievements, like 2 dozen of them lol

You are my savior. Bought the game 2 days ago sitting around 10 hours now. Today when i started the game a massage popped up, that the game is broken and should use the repair function in steam.

So i quit the game and used the repair funtion. After i started the game i only could choose "new game".

But happily your post saved me. I also dont know why the saves are or moved to a gog directory. Now after moving i can continue to play.
