Why are summons so bad
Towards the end of act one everything just obliterates my skeletons, and the summoned keepers aren't much better, they're bugged and just stand there 90% of the time, my summoner build seems heavily gimped atm.

I think summons are OP. Except the skeles. They are weak. I use Battlemages and they melt bosses

Skeletons are the worst summon. Everything else is better than them. Just see how you down the enemy skeletons in 1 hit and you will understand. I play summons + offensive spells and I am facing no challenge on the mid difficulty, save for the WyrdKniht, which is a special kind of boss. I am torn between finishing the story or starting over on max.

So I'm in act 2 and the 2 best summoning spells I have are the keepers and the skeletons, the keepers just stand there like idiots, are there better summons I can find in act 1?
I've found that summon grindylow is by far my favorite. They have good avoidance maneuvers and good attacks that can hit multiple times. They also don't take much mana to sustain.

I wouldn't recommend keepers, they take too much mana to sustain and their ranged attacks usually never hit, they don't take agro when they stay ranged.

I found them to be kinda meh.

Hoping the later acts give big summons, like a golem or something.

After much testing, I found skeletons very reliable. But you have to invest into the summoning tree and put tons of points into spirituality, otherwise yes, they suck.Keepers suck because they spend so much changing weapons. Battlemage had similar issues because it would stop to change logic between magic and melee, but faster. I suggest melee only. People swear by wolves, but skeletons were my go to. You get better skeletons in the 2nd area. Also there's smaller summons that are harder to hit, though they do very little damage.

My favorite summons in act one were the grindylows, They're only melee, so they don't suffer from AI swapping between melee and ranged. Not an expensive cast either, they have a 3 hit combo attack which is great, especially if you summon your summoning cap (default 3).

Where do you get battlemages? I'm nearly through act 2 and I've been using the master assasins, but they keep getting lost and seem to have pathing and teleporting issues (Standing next to a ledge? better teleport into the player and knock them off)

The druid who asks you to get 2 halves of a tablet has a shop. You should meet him pretty early in Act 2 as its apart of the main story. Be careful though they use the fireball spell and can hit other npcs causing them to turn hostile towards you.

Only thing holding back summons is the borked and buggy AI, otherwise they are goated af
remors are goated i can actually kill the foredweller knights with those little dudes
I mean they are just bones held together by magic man.

"The first spell you get"

Are you stupid? you don't get it until half way through act 1
If you want a serious answer then I would suggest that you actually build your character with summons in mind if you want them to be good. There is a summons perk tree and it will vastly improve all of your summons. Outside of that you will have to find better versions of the spell or find other summoning spells.
