Music doesn't fit the setting.
This game is meant to take place in a dark Arthurian setting but the music is this weird folk Viking stuff with weird rap in old Norse. Am I the only one who thinks there's a pretty big disconnect here with the music choice? I mean sure it sounds pretty cool but like... It just does not fit.

What should we be listening to then? Lutes and flutes?

Nah.

Arthurian legend has large ties to Norse Mythology.

Edit: Especially in the TG series, the Dal Riata are the Norse people.

Yeah, these are my thoughts as well. If you listen to the main theme, you can even hear the names Niflheim and Muspelheim on repeated occasions. I have the impression the developers hired the band for their sound, which I personally find approppriate in terms of mood and ambiance, but sadly the theme and the setting seem to have been completely ignored.

He was chanting, not rapping. Good god...

Nah.

Setting appropriate music would be nice.

No it doesn't.

The Intro of the game and the one from the TV series "Vikings" would both also fit into a Lovecraftian piece of art. :wellok:

Lancelot was from Northern France i.e. Burgundy which was originally conquered by the Vikings, so there's your Norse connection

Burgundy is not northern france and wasn't Viking either. Lancelot was from Brittany, a british region.

The most "Nordic" part of King Arthur's story is how he conquered Denmark

A lot of used music are licensed tracks by Nordic folk artists. Main Menu theme is Danheim & Gealdýr - Ymir. Both of their other tracks also used throughout the game. I believe Heilung also present, but could mismatch them.

Whether it's bad or not is up to you to decide. I am a big fan of Nordic folk so it sits right with me.

Tainted Grail isnt based on the later more romantic tales of King Arthur. it has its roots in the earlier Arthurian stories. If you want to read a bit more on the background of this game's lore, the lead writer wrote a few words on the origins. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1199030/discussions/0/3435626645074338412/

It's not as much norse as it is germanic. Saxons were a germanic tribe from north of germany (south of danmark). The "norse" mythology is most and foremost old germanic mythology.

There is a reason days of the week in english are named after norse gods (tuesday is tyr's day, wednesday is odin's day, thursday is thor's day, friday is frigg's day), because it's not just norse, it's germanic.

tainted grail is pretty much about the old version of the tale, which is about celts, romans and germanic tribes.

You are thinking about Normandy. This was given to a large Viking fleet attacking Paris in order to, well not attack Paris.
Lancelot was from Brittany.

And I think the connections to the Norse in Arthurian myth are not that strong as the roots of that Myth predates the times Vikings had a huge impact on the Isles. AFAIK the roots are also mostly Welsh and there the Vikings had an even later impact.
But this is not a field I am very familiar with so I could be wrong.

While the rapping zombie-lord was ultra cringe, at the time this game would take place, the vikings and other scandanavian/northern nations were occupying large chunks of France, Britain. I think the setting makes sense for the music. Even if the music itself is really bad lol.

apart from the music beeing implemented quite horribly and depening on the area you are traversing constantly changing tracks
your take is bonkers
a) the Arthur mythos is not done in any historical context
b) there is a lot of sci-fi-Giger stuff going on...which you should've seen pretty much during the intro alone (later way more)
c) doesn't take long for the Lovecraft elements to get shown...which were already present in the first game

and no: Dannheim ain't "historical" music..which makes the nordic-fan-tales some vomit out here even more hillarious; it is great techno-dance-nordic-inspired sound (got all the albums); but it is as little historical accurate as is the show "Vikings"

Celtic druid'ish vibes fit perfectly (as in the main menu track)

Also want to point out its not 'viking music' either, as a swede.

I like the music vibe, made up druidic-vibe, since thats right into the lore.
