From what I've read so far - the game is way easier being a mage and quite tough going full melee.
Funny thing is - in different thread I mentioned Enderal. I had the same. Exact. PROBLEM!
One handed was simply not enough and shield didn´t help at all. So I went two-handed+plate+ blood magic. So I was effectively blood knight (or vampire knight, while something similiar is even in Elder Scrolls Online). Then the game started to be fun and effective.
So maybe as second slot use summons and third slot that leech spell.
This might be effective build...theoretically...I think x)
You still have to dodge and time your attacks but you won't need to block or parry.
Same experience so far (lvl 30 two-handed (hammer) / heavy armor). I used a lot of armor perks, both to boost melee damage (+ percentage of armor value) as well as damage reduction and perk negation perks. Also have mostly pumped strength and endurance attribute. Even bosses are annoyed that they can't really hurt me.
Maybe I should try the 2h approach next :)
