Bows aren't working
My shots always miss from a distance even when the indicator is pointed right at the enemy and turns red lol

According to my experience, the humans' type enemies' hitbox is quite small and the distance for arrows to start falling downward is actually quite short.

Yeah, account for "bullet drop"
Same i notice even when my target is accurate they still miss from a certain distance.. I hope range gets better on better bows..

This is kind of annoying.
First I thought there might be some hidden range of bows, like my current short bow does not hit targets the long bow could.
Then I had the situation when I hit an enemy but didn't kill it. Then shot another arrow but didn't hit anything.

Enemies sometimes spot you from far away and if I have to get closer then I am about always spotted before the first shot.
The indicator is a general idea. You have to aim above them considerably. It took a bit of practice to get used to the arrow drop but once I did I was hitting shots at very long ranges.

okay, thanks for a tip. btw, does the damage multiply from sneak? im on lvl 7 so haven't really had time to verify it yet

Its buggy as imo, i've had my bow one shot stuff twice and then do like a tiny chunk even stealthed.. pretty sure outside of a certain range arrows do nothing but warn the enemies.

Yes, perception can increase sneak damage via bow. One thing ive noticed is that you REALLY need to watch your stamina when using a bow, a lot of my misses are due to running out of stamina and releasing the arrow too soon or with too little draw. Even then, ill miss sometimes just because, and boy, does an arrow make mobs notice you in stealth easy. I must have percussion arrows.

Sometimes ill save before attacking, one miss and the whole mob packs aggroed, but get the sneak bow attack right and you cant one shot execute all the mobs without aggro if done right. Nothing feels better than the slow mo bow execute when you dont aggro anything next to the dead mob.

perks from perception skill tree work as well, right?
The perks seem to make a considerable difference. I would definitely recommend investing in the bow perks early as they really help reduce the stamina cost. As for the missing arrows, as someone else pointed out, the hit boxes seem to be pretty narrow compared to other games of this type, and when an enemy is moving it can be really easy to miss if you don't shoot where the enemy is headed vs. where they are. I feel like the shot of a bow should travel a little faster, but I am not a bow expert, so perhaps I am wrong.
Definitely don’t rely on the red hit indicator, you can hit from super far away, just have to aim above.

I just started playing, and tried to shoot a mob, but my arrow missed and it hit a pig that was behind the mob. The crit camera view of that poor pig was devastating and awesome! I later learned that getting a headshot from a stealth bow kill was also very satisfying. Reminded me of Fallout.
Bows are OP like mana regeneration imo. Not struggling with aiming, I always factor in a little drop/randomness with bows. But a few points into it, it's strong and OP and you can add a few more and take it to 12. Marksmen is incredibly generous as is building up weakspot damage %.

It's more than just bullet drop -- I'm pretty sure there's a hard cap on ranged and even practicing proper archery isn't going to let you hit that distant target. Moreover, that cap feels relatively low.

That said, bow still does some murder.

Yeah except you shoot again at the target same indicator height and second time hits, so it;s not that. I wish they made arrows more visible so we can actually see of they drop but i also feel like there is a range cap
