Magic is very good in this game, spell casting is a lot of fun. Do note that if you're going the summon route, get used to having chunks of mana unavailable to you (each summon reduces your total available mana)

You can call down bolts of lightning from the sky and target multiple npcs at once, that's the only one I've found.

You've got various types of fire and ice magic, summoning magic and projectile magic. There aren't a lot of spells from what I can tell, but all of the magic that is available is well done and fun to use. You can also socket weapons to give them effects like burn on hit as well. There's also items that you can charge up (kind of like soul stones in elder scrolls) that have varying effects from preventing death to unleashing massive spells that you couldn't cast normally.

One thing to know is that you're not getting new spells automatically as you level, you'll have to find them in the game world. And the most powerful spells use a lot of mana, so are basically unusable unless you focus on a magic build.

As to lightning spells, IIRC there is only one, but it is a huge AOE thunderstorm.
I'm REALLY loving magic right now - I never tried it in the previous test and so far I'm loving it - Having summons to tank for you is also a hugeee help!

Yeah my current build is a summoner type spellsword. It's really good.

The first lightning spell you get is the lightning bolt (chain lightning when heavy cast), it's sold by a merchant in the first city (along with other elemental spells).

I have the upgraded lighting spell that heavy attack chains to 5 guys and it is my main spell now. Just murders lesser enemies. I dual weild it with the upgraded blood bleed spell and found a ring that adds more bleed to all attacks and it is just insane. Just killed gal at level 26 took a bit but boy did not have a chance once that bleed started stacking.

I have to wonder which city has a merchant selling spells? If you mean the Horns, which merchant?

Not very. Enemies barely react, and the damage is pretty low so you'll have to spam A LOT of spells just to kill some basic outlaws and peasants. The trick for now seems to basically depend on summons instead. Found a quick sample for you, just pretend it's a 2000 game and it's fine? https://youtu.be/p8X1mOa1OFk?t=247

That Dead as Dreams walkthrough was painful to watch. The player didn't even know how to set up the health and mana potions usefully or use 'X' to eat rations.

in the keeper fortress there are 2 spell merchants. The medic in the house near your stash and the red priest near the tree. The priest sells healing and protection magic, the medic sells elemental magic.

Excellent. I must be more thorough! Thank you, Drake!

Turning them into Cheese is great for levelling cooking. 😄 Do the quest chain for the woman with the shop counter in town, it leads to an unusual delivery quest and thence to a weird NPC. Do his little quest, and he gives a spell as a reward... It's WAY more useful than it looks. 😄
