Can I be a summoner in this game?
Any summoner playstyle?

Yes there are a lot of different summon spells and a skill tree specific to summoning.

In 0.9 the summons were sadly pretty weak and stupid, but you only had access to the first area, maybe there are stronger summoning spells in the later parts of the game.
I felt in .9 summons got pretty strong especially with the ability to continually summon them.

They started out strong, but they didn't really scale very well so they'd fall off, which is why I think getting new summoning spells could make up for it.

So there a new summoning spell for the release version? Interesting

I found when I played EA that summoning was very exploitive. I had some summonable wolves.

I could use the life absorbing spell on them and save potions.

And I could use them to distract and beat much higher level enemies that could other wise 1 shot me.

"No! You have to use this weak tool or you're cheesing! You're not allowed to use THAT tactic! The devs are WRONG to put that in the game, so I'll call it an exploit!" - Gamer mentality for some reason

I hope they implement something where the summons scale with the player.

Summons are much stronger than previous, and cheaper. I noticed they can handle most things in act 1 just fine even without points upgrading them.

Always keep in mind that you SHOULD be assisting your summons in combat though, its slow and difficult in later acts and against certain bosses if you dont assist.

Or... (I know this is weird, but bear with me)... you could... just use a healing spell? (Crazy, right!)
Confirmed, summoners are insanely strong!

Are they in the game now? There weren't any in 0.9.

Edit: Found a healing spell at the red priest in the keep, they do exist now.

Does it play like the necromancer-class in Diablo 2 and Guild Wars 1? Might make me buy the game.
