How's magic?
So I don't own the game yet, saw the spiffing brit video on it and it got me intrigued thought I'll prob wait for full release. I like playing a wizard in these kinda games but since everyone is comparing this to skyrim I know magic falls off hard in that game. I also don't wana rely completely on exploits (though knowing me I'll def try some eventually) and was curious what our current consensus is so far? Is there more than ice/fire magic? Is there summoning/necromancy or other cool spells? Is it OP? UP? Obv we won't know for the whole game but was curious.

I wouldn't buy the game it keeps crashing all the time, you walk through a door it crashes, you transition from an area to another the game crashes. Its annoying.

it has manual save which is nice :)

Ive been playing from GOG and mostly from what I see so far I can only use fireball, although there are potions to drink which inflict bleeding, poison, ice, etc. You can attack the friendly NPCS and kill them although it puts a bounty on your head, just think Oblivion The Elder Scrolls.

I havent been able to summon anything yet but have been looking at the foru,s and seeing people say you can summon. I think its an OK game, you can teleport between areas but until they have fixed the constant crashes its not worth getting, even for $65

It's fun for what it is for now. Hopefully the spell list is expanded upon in 1.0

Crashes are gonna be either something you get a lot or never.

My game never crashes.

There's a few decent ones, but it's pretty limited with it being Act 1 only right now.

The cheese spell is of worthy note.

bout magic played a mage for quite a long while in v0.9

there are about 16 spells and 7 cubes,

cubes are pretty useless, you have to hold them in order to charge them, if you swap the charges are gone. you cant see rather it is fully charged or not. and if you use it it has what ever effect it says n has to charge again.

bout the spells, the vast majority is useless af
- best spell by far hailstone (zero requirements) one shots most enemies and instat freezes them, no cast time no cooldown almost no mana cost, just spammable.
- 2nd merlins thorns, magical daggers, chargind adds up to 6 daggers, 2 hit are enough to kill almost everything. bad close up since charge is pretty slow.
- 3rd scorching blaze, still medium dmg, but is aoe. can 2 shot even the galahad boss, with certain perks learned n certain items equiped.
- wolves call, you can summon 3 at a time, cheap to cast, awesome tanks early game. not very useful later on, just very low health.
- rumpolts revenge - turn enemies into cheese literly, long casting time. grants no exp if you didnt hit the target at least once.

game has some quite broken mage items. but they are rather hard to get, either good hidden or rewards for rather long quests.
- alisa has a dress n a tiara adding +35% spell dmg (very long quest)
- wand of piercing cold, chill build up happens instant (all sources) (quest reward)
- wand of lingering ash. burn build up happens instant (all sources) (hidden loot)
- the perk movementspeed = spelldmg literly doubles your dmg output.

quest choices matter in this game espec interms of rewards.

I wanted to ask, does the game have enemy scaling? Is there any reason to explore and level up? I hate that in so many games you are actively discouraged to train and level up.
currently there is only 1 scaling enemy, thats the wyrdspawn. humanoind blue spirits that appear at night. those realy hurt at higher levels. :D

if you do everything in act1 you probably endup lv40+
there is one quest in particular that requieres alot of farming at night, n i havent even touched that one yet :D

Thanks. I guess If its not ubiquitous like in other games, its fine. I am really considering buying this game after I got really disappointed by Avowed.
Something to mention is a synergy between certain weapon upgrades and certain elemental effects. For example, I have a spear that has an upgrade that gives +40% dmg to frozen enemies and I know there is an upgrade to do the same for burning enemies. So depending on how you want to play, it might be worth keeping a onehander on hand for this purpose.

1 skeleton summon and 1 de-summon spell so far, more likely in final areas, only way i know how to get is to kill necromancer in the crypt

There IS Wolfpack, summons a Wolf Up to 3. Found in the miners Tunnel, north of Spawn beach. / Skeleton Army from necromancee Quest. / And a Special summon for Workshopping the Queen. / Rumpolts revenge counts as summon but Transforms the target into cheese. That one is from Orchestra? The female merchant
