In Broc Meala, use aoe or drain spells to get Ghost down to 1hp (many reloads will be required for accidental overkills)
Fire an aoe spell at the ground with a bleed ring or crit for bleed effect and talk to Ghost. Before the effect wears off, leave the conversation.
In the split second before you are teleported, the Ghost will die. Returning to Broc Meala after talking to the Queen, his body is still there.
All of the rewards:
Hiveborn Horror helmet: 8 armor, 10 mana, 5% life steal
Worker Bee's Robe: 10 armor, 5 mana regen, 15% critical
Queen's Protector Crown: 12 armor, spell power 20%, physical dmg 20%, critical 5%
Ghost of Broc Meala: Spell to summon him as minion
Sting: Poison on hit sword, meh
It started automatically for me after I walked north from where the guy is standing by the bridge. Just north of the fast travel point I got attacked by a swarm of bees and when I killed one it started.
At first I missed it too, you have to talk to Broc near the bridge south-east of the good druids home. That conversation triggers the next portion. Broc often gets chased away by the wolves and bears, so it's easy to miss him.
I used the pyroclast core (which I found in the shrine of a forgotten god).
1) got broc low using the drain from blood transfusion (probably like 1/3 hp), which gets him upset and he gets into a weapon sheathe loop which you cannot interact with him.
2) sat behind one of the houses until out of detection, quicksaved then reloaded which resets his aggro, but not his hp. (alternatively I'm pretty sure you can just run far enough away until he completely loses aggro, making it possible to skip this step)
3) went off and charged the pyroclast core on random enemies on the map, then teleported back to broc when it was charged
4) stood the appropriate distance away from broc and used it and talked to him, only leaving the conversation after he died.
The spell from pyroclast doesnt actually do any initial damage, just apply status, which is why he doesn't get upset when he is hit by it. Also, I did some testing on several projectile based spells/consumables with AOEs, but none of them actually hit him.
Things that did actually do damage were the life/blood transfusion heavies, flame torrent light and heavy, and thunderstorm.
That's a good strategy. Yeah, looking back only certain AOE attacks seem to work to apply the status for that last bit of HP. Hopefully in 1.0 we can still get both rewards, they are all very good.
