I think the game gives you enough tools to overcome challenges, almost to the point of getting you broken (and by the way, notorious throwing knives can be used by you with deadly efficiency as well), but on average it feels fair to me, the enemies are slow enough and telegraph their attacks well, so throwing a few dodges here and there is enough.
Now getting physical armor (if you wan tto go that route) seems to be quite hard and investment-heavy, but idk, I get the feeling it should work as well.
melee is better early game and magic is better late game, but archery so far is pretty op all stages of the game.
