It's broken. It is supposed to select input from your "food" category, but apparently doesn't recognise any of the objects in there as elgible. My guess: Another unintended consequence of the introduction of crafting quality. Now all food you make has some quality modifier attached to it, which technically makes it a different item from the staple food items, so the filter for this autofill slot doesn't include it.

The "quality" aspect is feature-creep at its worst. No need for it. Right now, there are way too many food recipes. Cut down the recipes to about 25% of current. We dont need all these types of fish, or this many vegetables. No need for absolute realism.

Autofill works with experimental food.

While calling out "feature creep at its worst" is a rather dramatic take, I agree that too many silly food ingredient combinations make functional 'recipes'. Many combinations I've tried just for a should result in "inedible slop".
