As for the lost knights, they're quiet resistant to fire, I can't remember if they are vulnerable to thunder or ice, but I'd try other spells too, you'll find them around the place if you explore.
My first character was a post 0.7 mage, id say invest stats as spirit with every 3rd level into endurance, you'll want the extra hp and carry weight.
After about 25 spirit, you'll start killing enemies far more effectively.
If you sprint/sneak/jump your way to the very northwest rocky region in the first act, you'll find the second area transition to act 2, which leads to a swamp, camp there till 9pm, head through the door, fight 3 creatures or just sneak/sprint past them, there will be a human camp with 3 soldiers, one is a named soldier who is wearing a full set of light armor that gives about 5 mana regen per sec when wearing the full set.
Pre-25 spirit, being a mage is all about picking 1 mob at a time, kiting them away to solo and spamming 80-25% of your mana just to kill them.
Post-25 spirit and certain act 2 spells being a mage is all about 1-2 shotting mobs, and regaining back your mana on kill.
I think my mage was nearly on 45 spirit last i played and my 45mana cost fire spell was one shotting everything.
Arrows are trivial. Go to the blacksmith in the first town and craft them. Just do the basic recipe and don't add extra materials for better arrows and you will soon have a lot. There is free wood nearby if you have a woodcutters axe for materials as well.
Just be aware that if you take the penetrating shot skill that your used arrows will be harder to find as they don't generally stick in enemy bodies after you take it. Bit of a PITA but arrows are easy enough I guess.
TBH i can kill one, it is a pain in the rear and like the duel betwen the mountain and prince Oberyn Martell, one mistake and you are dead, since it's a long fight the chance to make a mistake is high, i wish i had a sumoning spell to help me, but no luck so far :(
(too bad because i have spent skill points for the sumon that i don't have.) :((
In my experience they will not follow you in there.
Save.
Talk to the necromancer for some lore.
Reload after he kills you.
Whup out your bow and turn him into a pin-cushion.
Loot the room and then run back past the Lost Knights or take the short cut.
Don't forget to stop for a chat with the keeper on your way out.
The boss was more a piece of cake.
