Has anyone found a random combination for a recipe or do you have to find them?

Before the update, I discovered multiple new recipes with random ingredients. I dont know if the same mechanic applies after the update. Other than that, you can buy recipes to a craftmanship from the according NPC:
Cook --> cooking recipes
Smith --> smithing recipes
Alchemist --> alchemy recipes
...

Stand in front of the cooking pot and combine away. Why didn't you just try yourself???

Unless I REALLY missed something though, player cannot attempt random alchemy, but yes, throw ANY ingredients into a cook pot and you come up with something beneficial to player. There is no negative to cooking at all.

AND I trust that whole crafting mechanic is just a stand-in, because it certainly feels like just a raw place-holder to me... (¯―¯)

I got the Kraken post update, but that one is available from a book too. So you can definitely still get recipes without having the book.
