Summons have a continual Mana cost, do you have enough MP to keep them up after summoning?

That would explain a lot. Thanks. I was like "why the hell does this dude just keel over every time I summon him?"

That sucks, explains why my summon wolf disappeared after a couple of seconds. Permanent summons are better IMO.

If you have enough mana regen then you can maintain multiple summons (undead says it's max is 5, haven't checked others), there are also skills to reduce the cost.

In this case, I have to take take off some armour to get down to "light" for Armour but was very slowly losing mana at 3 skeletons (slowly increasing at 2). At medium, I have just about enough mana to not run out before the summon expires. In both cases wearing a necromancer robe.

This is a level 20 which is a mixture of Spirituality, Endurance and Strength (few points in dexterity too). This is with no skills for summons either, more focused as an all rounder with sword, bow, heal spell and two attack spells.

If I remember correctly they used to stick around until they were killed. They did a few things that I don't really care for personally including camp fires being needed for fast travel. I think between that and the summon thing it's becoming overly 'cumbersome' for lack of a better word. I still really like this game and nothing so far is a deal breaker but just figured it was worth mentioning.

I hope they change summoming. Constant mana drain AND limited duration? Sounds weird. If they constantly drain mana, just make them permanent duration

There's perks that improve it but I'm not entirely sure whether or not you can get powerful enough to counter the drain with mana regen. That would be cool though.

The Arcanist set probably more than counters the mana drain, that set has a lot of Mana regen on it. Also there is an amulet you can buy from a druid in the new area that gives +2 mana regen.

EDIT: can get almost 9 mana/sec with Arcanist set and +2 mana/sec amulet https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3264530682

I did not know this! This magic system gains more respect from me now.

Point and shoot magic, permanent summons, is just so much bubblegum.
Stop whinging, look to overcome these mana drain deficiencies, suggestions are posted above...

I can kinda keep up two with still positive mana regen and I'm not far in the game.

I'm playing a melee character so I haven't experienced this yet but a timed summon is usually a good middle ground. Have them stick around for 30 or 60 secs and die once the timer runs out or an enemy kills them. Of course I haven't played the board game and maybe they chose to do it this way because that's how it works. I doubt I'll use the magic system so I don't really care which way they go with it. lol

Actually the mana drain is not a too bad idea. There's a skill after all that lets you do more spell damage the less mana you have. It can help you balance a medium mana. Usually, no summon active, that perk would never come into play.

I agree, one or the other, not both.

Where are the Arcanist robes located?

Summons are for the most part just bodies to block for you. Most of the time they don't do anything unless you consider chilling out near my char to be useful. I've watched the wolf and knight get summoned and walk off in a random direction while I fought the baddies. I felt like I was nerfing myself with the extra mana drain.
