Questing Beast Egg??

What does it do? Do I sell it? It has a weight of 20, so I would rather not hold onto it.

Haven’t done that one yet but just store it in your stash until some quest needs it (if the quest has even been created yet).

Yeah, it took me an embarrassingly long time to find the stash because I was avoiding the Quartermaster.

You can find a stash box to put heavy and or treasures and the like away for yourself. I have found three in my play of the content available. I suggest you deposit it.

Yeah, I found the stash and put it in there.

if you look at the details on the egg, it shows a number of steps you need to take. Once the counter is at 0 you can interact with it like a potion, and a short cut scene will happen. it hatches into what looks like an axolotl with too many eyes. in essence, its a pet that you can interact with and will follow you around.
i completed this last night.

I couldn't figure out how to put it away. I'm not into vanity pets myself, and having those footsteps coming up from behind me surprises me sometimes.

I think you can just tell it to stay and it should remain there until you yell it to follow again.
