Cannot rescure the Hope-2 crew in time
The cargo truck is just too slow.

I even went back to an earlier save and positioned my rover and my cargo truck in the area where the first escape pod would land. I immediately rescued them and went to the second location. But after picking the crew from the second pod up, I only had 7 days to go back to the base which is much shorter than it takes for the cargo truck to cover that distance.

Am I missing something? Is there any way to recure all of them or is the event intentionally timed in a way that makes you loose part of the crew?

It is quite frustrating to be honest.

send the cargo truck manually alongside the scout so it's already there when the crew are found. not sure if it's intentional or not but the cargo truck currently has an unlimited battery so night won't slow it down.

The problem seems to be that the first pod is landing shortly before night starts at the location so my rover cannot get to the second location before the sun comes back. Is there any way to change the time of day that the pod lands?

Ok, it looks like the exact position of the second pods crash site is somewhat randomised. I.e. if game decides you are not worthy, it will spawn the second pod on the further side of the marker, which means you have 0 chance of picking them up in time. If the game does like you it will spawn the site to the west of the marker and then it becomes trivial, just like many other commenters said in other threads. Essentially second pods pickup is not a skill issue, it's just pure dumb luck.:despotflip:

Therefore, if someone has problems doing the second pod in time - savescum until the site spawns on the west side of the marker. Eventually you will get lucky.

Correction: You can cheese the night by simply not picking up the first pod colonists until your rover gets position where the second pod will land, roughly. It also lets you just wait out the night, as timers seems to stop until you pick up the people from the first pod. This still leaves you with a problem that, if game hates you, you are guaranteed to not have enough time for truck to return and half the people will suffocate. Not a great game design imo.

I ended up in a scenario where I had the truck ready to go and loaded up, but the last 1 component would not be loaded into it, no matter how many literally hundreds of components i had in storage. i waited 7 days for a drone to load a single component until everyone died.

you need to pick up the full cargo to get them pop up so just pick up the colonists they have invunerabletodeath trait wich is immortal pretty much

All you guys are talking about not being able to get the crew back alive.... Heck I can't even find where the pod went down. I've gone thru three saves now and I've just been wandering around aimlessly scanning with the radar on the truck. I'm at a loss. Kudos to everyone except me for being able to find them.

Above your base should be the location you can't research, but it's description tells you need to use scan nearby. Try using it, the area around rover would lit up and it would show the direction you should move. Once you close enough, there would be a dot on the scanner UI - that's your escape pod. Get even closer, use the scanner again, and you'll be able to research the pod.

My rover was too far from base when the quest started, I even had no chance to find the ship, I believe it should be somewhere nearby the base

It is near the base. It is very slightly above it. I'm sorry but this was on you. Why if you have no idea where it will be would you send you rover off somewhere random? Logically, you would think to have your rover back at home and ready to go when that timer hits zero.

I had saved a day out from the landing with my rover and cargo truck in the landing area. It still took my about ten attempts to get both pods and all twelve crew. I just managed to get the rover to the second pod and find it before the battery ran out. If the second pod is to the east of the marker there is no chance.

second pair of rover/truck maybe helps.

if not, leave them, dead colonists still dont penalty.
you can order/rent hundrets of them later.

Tips for the second pod:

After you locate the first pod with your scout rover the timer disappears, so instead of grabbing them with the truck send your scout to the east where the next area is and wait for daybreak. Just before day hits, save and grab the first pod and then send the truck towards your scout. Then when the next part starts, you have full daylight to find them.

Tip 2: The second pod's landing location will be random within a circular area around the spot it shows you. If you saved before grabbing the first pod, you can save scum for an optimal spot for the second pod. So grab the first, see the message, and then scan with your pre-positioned scout rover. If the landing is north or east of the marker then reload as they will be too far away from your base to get back in time without some dying on the way. If the location is south (or within range already) then the trip back will be much shorter, giving you lots of time to make it back.

Bonus tip: The quest is considered complete the instant you unload the crew, so if you get back to base but it looks like time will run out before your truck can unload at the elevator, you can dump them off as soon as they are on the above ground map even though they are far from the elevator and the quest will end successfully. The crew will walk all the way back but be fine.
