Unfortunately, you will find that The Crust is more a Factorio type game, than it is an Outpost type game, although it does have both the surface and underground components, and a very interesting storyline.
Outpost, whilst being super buggy and never finished, was so engaging. Choosing the star you would take a chance on. Scanning various planets to find one that would be suitable to colonise. The huge tech tree and building options (for it's time atleast) were soooo good.
Shame it never really got a true sequel. Outpost 2 was an RTS if I recall.
I make no promises for what anyone new to the game, with today's expectations and experience, might find. But in the 90's it had seemed really ground breaking.
I get where your coming from, but I have no idea how they would have made that work, with only physical copies of games being available and only the embryonic internet for feedback. Hell, patches if they even had them, came on floppy disks in monthly or quarterly PC magazines. lol
Cheers
I wasn't going too, but I can understand the apprehension. It's all the rage these days to reboot things or continue them decades later.
There is no disputing that the industry has come a long way. It would be nice if we could see some games in the vein of Outpost and not just endless Factorio clones though. The fact this game departs from that style in places (from what I can tell) is a good sign perhaps.
This game is refreshing
I've never played Outpost, but have heard the comparison to The Crust many times. Could you please share your patched version for Windows. I really want to try it, maybe there are some interesting concepts in there?
I meant Outpost.
