Fuel Generator
I just researched the tech for "fuel generator." When I try to build it, there is a large question mark in a balloon attached to the ghost structure. What in tarnations is that supposed to mean? Like many things, the game doesn't explain simple mechanics.

Also, it says it runs on hydrogen. Do I just plop it down somewhere and it magically gets hydrogen? Or is it a surface/basement kind of thing? Or are there deposits? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need to mine water/ice. Hydrogen = Water/Ice

The question mark is the input. It's probably a question mark because it may be able to take different kinds of fuel in the future.

You need to research fuel factories as well which are right under the generators in the research tree. That takes aluminum and ice and makes fuel.

One fuel factory seems to be able to supply 4 fuel generators when running 100% of the time.

You can find fuel one the surface map, or buy it I suppose which is my assumption as to why the consumer and producer are separate research items.

OK, thanks to both of you - very helpful. I haven't gotten far enough into the game to even touch on the concept of "fuel," but I've made such a mess of my little colony that I am now starting over with the knowledge that I have gained so far. I'll find fuel later in this new game.

Question please. Can fuel generators completely take the place of the need for solar panels and batteries assuming that you have sufficient fuel of course. If so how do they produce electricity? I've built a couple, have plenty of fuel in them but they don't appear to be doing anything. I've built them on the surface, connected them to the elevator but when I check they are not using any fuel and although it shows on the usage panel in green that they are producing 180kw of electricity I don't appear to be gaining anything from them. I must be doing something wrong but need some help to tell me what, thank you.

As far as using the fuel generators, it is dependent on ice deposits and as far as I know they are finite. That is they run out, so if you depend on fuel generators for power you are screwed when you run out of ice.

Thanks "Bodger" I've got a lot of fuel and plenty of ice deposits but what I can't do is actually get the generators to produce electricity, have you managed it and if so where do you connect to if it isn't the elevator. Cheers
