Can't figure out rare earth minerals

I mined them, and there they are sitting in nice little piles. I then built a rare minerals refinery. Nothing is happening. Are drones supposed to feed the refinery or something? There's and option for an input belt... but what does it come from?

And on this refinery, there are four belt slots. When I click the conveyor belt tool, two are green and two are red/orange. Anyone know what that's about? A handy little mouse-over explanation would be helpful.

Drones will only feed a machine directly if that setting has been enabled. Click on the machine and click on the two opposing arrows icon (Drone maintenance) and then choose "ON" for 'Bringing Resources.'

Alternatively, and more the recommended route, is building a Bulk Resource Storage. It can store ores, such as Rare Earth Elements, and then you can conveyor them into the Rare Minerals Refinery.

The different colour indicators are letting you know what is an Input and what is an Output. Orange is an Input and Green is an Output. If you hover your mouse over the machine, you will also see arrows of the same colour animating. The icon being displayed is what is accepted as an input or output. If there is no icon attached, then it's configurable.
