Is it even possible to manage laser in time in story mode ?
I tried ti two times already I got to stage 3 and still can't make it to finish in time and "game over"
would be great to keep playing after mission is failed

Yes, many people have already done it, and we will be adding achievements soon to see how many people have been able to do it.
You can try the sandbox mode to play without restrictions.

is the achievement tracker broken then? if not, i doubt that the faction of a percent of the players that have build that is in the double digits.
i already made a feedback post about this mission. i do not think it is possible to do it right now without planning for it from the start of the game - ie: knowing precisely what to do and planning for it with the power of hindsight.
generally not a favorite approach among most players.

I think its broken, I've achieved at least 5/6 achievements that it hasn't listed as achieved, amongst about 15 other bugs/broken game components, but still attempting to have fun with it all.

For context of the thread, I'm currently on stage 2 of the laser with about 450 days left, I'm not expecting to finish it on my first run through, but I have learned many things which will help for another run through. Unfortunately there is a number of bugs (tech unlocked but able to build buildings, vehicles stuck, buildings not processing things properly) which are severely attempting to stop me achieving much.

As a tip.

Yes it is possible.
You need to be aware of certain missions though, that START the chain of events as well as a general timer.
One i have CONFIRMED is a quest starter and you can sit for REAL TIME DAYS going slow as a turtle if thats what you want.
That being: Research; Living quarters.

As long as you do not, research living quarters. The timer and next set of events will not be put in motion. Meaning you can take your time, set up infrastructure and your base as slow as you want.

If anyone else has other quest starters after this point, PLEASE SHARE.
Im making hard saves after like two three quests with the quest names to figure out which ones are 'safe' saves to go back to if i screw up.

You can always just abuse the contract system to get what you need for that quest. Contracts are a good way to make money and often you can buy all the resources needed to fill one and still make a profit (not nearly as good as finishing yourself obviously), so buy doing this often you can use that profit to buy the mats for the laser gun quest to supplement what you are making.

Also, a note to the devs saying people have done it. Up to a short time ago, there was an exploit in the game to basically get extremely rich extremely quick so it is possible that some of those who completed that quest, did so with help from the extra money.

I would also be curious to l know how many of those who completed it, did so on hard mode versus easy mode. I bet it would be much less daunting a task if you had had access to contracts and the money making capabilities of that right from the start.

Is this quest chain basically the difference between sandbox and campaign? Honestly, I'm on stage 4, 700 days left. I'll be thousands of materials off, I'm not sure how many full efficiency assemblers you need to create 2450 modular frames, but 3 of them fully function will probably create maybe 100-200 by the end of the mission for me. I can't even begin to consider a nanotube assembler because I can't create 2000 carbon fibers to begin with either.

I've actively been doing contracts as much as I conceivably could, my primary limitation being that I have to have 8 of my 16 robots repairing at all times so I can't load cargo fast enough. I've used every credit earned to buy materials to complete this quest chain objectives.

Other than cheats, I maybe could have done some improvements here and there, but I was quite efficient. And leagues off from completing. "some people have done it." Doesn't matter if miracles happen, some people have been made a saint for the same reason. You and me though? Yeah, we're gonna fail. If this is the only difference between sandbox and campaign though, it's a useless feature but kudos for developers adding impossible achievements for the real go getters out there.

It's a challenging one, to say the least. And, combining all the comments, I had to hold off doing the 'trigger' till I had massive infrastructure built - basically, at least 2 of every production facility fully maxed out, and then sell massive amounts of excess to buy the needed materials.

If you just zip through all the requested story line objectives and explore the '?', you'll trigger it waaaay too soon and not have enough resource capacity.

More people have completed it earlier in release than seem to be doing it now. How about we put it that way.

I am sure the Devs will force these events to happen in the future, but what I am reading here is do not explore the yellow ? on the screen and the (all?) events will not start? As far as the timer for the research Living Quarters, once the station is falling and they tell you to setup a living space....you are saying the station will not fall until living quarters has been researched?

I've built the laser with around 20 days to spare. That's after buying and selling tons of resources and messing up my supply lines since I oversold some materials that were now needed to build the next stage. So yeah it is possible.

As long as you know that the charity contract starts laser then yes it is very easy. I finished laser very easy. I have redone it to get the achievement for failing it.
I would say getting people and putting the machines needed on priority so they go in them does help though. I did struggle with the frames the first time I did it.

Has this changed from the MDR trigger?

Well, can't tell about this particular case, but the MDR trigger was adjusted indeed, so it's more likely to occur in one's session

In a different post when somebody was asking if the trigger had changed I mentioned that the trigger for was the charity contract. It was then confirmed by a developer.
