Colonist Problem
Hello,
I'm currently having a problem with colonists, I've noticed that from the original number I only have 5 left (mostly botanists) which is having a major impact on production. I haven't noticed the game alerting me to this problem at all, i.e. colonists dying or leaving. The game also didn't give me any information regarding the life cycle or other needs of the colonists beyond the quest to rescue them.
So can colonists really die or leave and how can I control this?
Thank you

Okay, thank you, that's really bad.

I guess it would have been appropriate for the developers to just make the colonists immortal until this issue is resolved, because I basically threw away over 6 hours this way.

Yes it is. I cannot comprehend how the devs don't simply make them immortal as a temporary fix so we can keep playing (simply letting them all die and not care about it isnt really an option tbh).

Yeah, I had to stop playing since all my crew suddenly died, so I reverted to an earlier save to where they were still alive and resumed from there until their health bar is at the low end. Now I won't resume this save until there is a fix for this.

some people may associate game characters with real people. And not everyone can do such an inhumane act as using people as a resource.

There are two issues here.

Why isn't the game notifying you that the colonists have a problem? There is nothing in the journal that indicates that they died or why they died.

Why are the colonists dying? I have discovered an issue with my game. They are starving to death, even though there is 289 food available. The thing is that food is lying on the surface, for some reason, perhaps from a expedition. It appears the colonists will only take food from the kitchen. It also appears that the colonists will not take organics from the garden to the kitchen to make food,. Maybe the refrigerator will solve this issue, but I don't have the tech yet.

If you got the workers from the Hope space station, they arrive with food, but you can't DO anything with it... maybe they can go in the fridge? I haven't been able to research that far down while the colonists still lived (as green tech keeps running out).

Put on the CEO hat and 'imagine' the people that died as 'contract ended' they returned to earth. (In a coffin.)

Colonists are reaaaaallly early stages development right now, as the warning message says when you first get them. Lots of issues, including pathing (they often get stuck in place and can't go anywhere)

So if they're paaaaart of the game right now how do we proceed so as not to get frustrated or soft locked/stuck? Oh, I know, stop playing.
