In the end, the mission still failed because I wasn't able to produce the required parts quickly enough. Why is the parts factory so horribly slow?
Unfortunately, I didn't have enough money to buy the parts. I would have had to sell more things, but loading the capsule would have taken too long again. -.-
Very unsatisfactory!
The timer is just fine.
Btw, you can send both the cargo truck and the rover to the crash site to save some time on the rescue op.
I thought they would land near my base at the landing pod.
The quest is silly and needs to be easier to understand or have a step by step on what I need to do, Right now I have restarted the game 3 times and I am getting sick of having the same issue.
You need to drive a round a bit untill you get a ping and the, imo way too small, dot appears.
first attempt of the quest failed for me because i didn't pay attention to the explainations.
out of the next 8 attempts 6 have been successful
one failed due to bug, where the location just could not be found.
one failed due to bug, location found but the game didn't put any crew or ressources into the event for being picked up.
having a savegame before the crashing cutscene is helpful, if there's a bug reload and then it may work properly.
Okay, I figured it out with a little bit of help. Instructions were not that clear but after someone wrote down what to look for I got it down now.
First, When you do a scan you will see the sonar ring and in one part of the radius you will see "Noise Spikes" on the scan. When you move closer in that direction and scan again you should get a blip sound and small dot. If you don't, then repeat the step. When you get a dot, click on it and move your vehicle over it. The dot will change into the lost pod where you can investigate and now send out a rescue vehicle using the expedition option.
Maybe I missed the animated tutorial on this procedure, or maybe it doesn't exist, but it should be explained similar to this to make the quest easier to comprehend.
Thanks for your input Alukat
I agree, it turned night right as the pod came down. Could never get there in time. The game encourages you to go out and find out whats out there and then you get slapped for doing it, because you were not thinking 20 steps a head when learning a new game and distracted with other about 7 other things.
The only way i could cheese this, was.
I made a save a week before the crash cause i expected shenanigans.
After reloading. I repositioned my rover and cargo truck in the area. Then quickly relocated to where the second crash happens. At max speed, i returned to base with 1 days left of oxygen for the crew.
(It is very 'cutting it close' to say the least)
Considering the amount of research you need to do and the tight schedule you have to get everything researched to build anything and if you make one mistake in the order of research your screwed. The guidance in the mission is vague and they only tell you to research one thing at a time. Since you can parallel research you could research water and O2 production at the same time and you should probably research farming as well, but you wont know that. You definitely will have to fail several times until finally find the steps you need to research, but you will run into resource an power problems.
In my last run through the station crashed just as nightfall came, and cheapo CRUST doesn't equip their rovers with batteries so it does't run in the dark and I only have a timer of 22 days to find them and 14 days are spent in the dark so no way are you going to make it on time.
Not worth it too much frustration. I say Let'em Crash!
If the pod lands at night - mission fail.
If the rover is too far away exploring other locations - mission fail.
If you start game and random map generator gives you bad resource patches on start - you will likely fail too.
