The driving in game is too much simplified for a wheel. Keyboard and mouse or game controller are best.
1,400hrs - all on keyboard for me.
Controller so you got more control over your throttle and steering, keyboard&mouse for easier winching and menu navigation.
Keyboard. This specific game allow keyboard to surpass everything else because you can winch precicely with mouse quickly - while flipping, saving yourself. Gamepad winch is atrocious and unusable. I own both and never use gamepad
It requires zero control over throttle and steering, just pedal to the metal, its not even simcade, the inner workings are SO oversimplified, it has no concept of RPM even. Saying this as a modder, who tried to make proper transmissions...
I have a M+K for winching and general menu navigation but prefer Wheel for prolonged periods of play. A controller would work also. Holding down W for long periods of time can hurt your hands.

definitely not a steering wheel, I tried to play it's just impossible
It's also a terrible game on the gamepad, because when you're stuck, it clings to any tree except the one you need, my choice is a 900-hour keyboard

I enjoyed this game on a Logitech G920 wheel. There was no force feedback, which kinda sucked. I winched with mouse. But when I switched to Moza ecosystem, mouse winching was no longer an option. And you can't map Moza wheels correctly, because developers do not wish to support them. So I'd say controller is a best option to play Snowrunner.

2066.1 hours all with keyboard and mouse for me, but some streamers I watch use a wheel (G29 / 920 (923) series or one uses a Moza R5) and others use a controller. Personal Preference.

As a newbie, controller works best. Mix with the keyboard too for certain tasks of course. Steering with controller, cannot get on with it when it's wheel mode on the controller.

I don't agree with you, it's impossible to hook the desired object with a winch on the first try with a gamepad, just like with a steering wheel
For this game I prefer KB & M. MMO mouse with all the gears bound to buttons helps. I've not found much of a use for the granularity of steering, but I guess throttle / brake might be different. I certainly found it a lot tougher to find winch points etc on Switch.
I played most of Michigan with keyboard and mouse, but since then I've used a PS4 controller, together with the KB and M.
The controller gives me fine control of throttle and steering (and even brakes) while the mouse takes over for winchpoint selection, and occasionally for menu selection.
I can use the controller for winchpoint selection - it usually works ok if you are looking in the right direction!
Touch sensitive keyboard. Gives same control of a game pad and keeps accuracy of the Mouse.
I use a controller with trigger locks to drive, and a trackball mouse to winch. The trigger locks are nice when cutting through mandatory muck pits.
