This is like asking if a screwdriver is better than a wrench.

The answer is that it depends on the situation. Are you looking for something specific, or are you looking for a generalist?
or you can just say. mastodon. :steammocking:

The Mastodon is outdone by most trucks at doing activities outside of deep mud, swamps, and deep snow. These places also happen to be the ones that you should avoid regardless of what you're driving. I brought up the Mastodon alongside the Crocodile, and the Tatra Pack, and the Apache, because the OP later asked about deep mud trucks, and that is what the Mastodon is.

Pretty much everything that isn't intended to fill the same type of specialist role as the Mastodon is going to move your cargo way faster, for less fuel, will deal with more steep inclines while loaded, and will do it with better steering and handling features than a Mastodon.

I did a run in the Overo Hills to the Reactive Zone yesterday with the rear wheel drive highway class Mack TerraPro from "the useless Mack Pack that is a cash grab" and fitted with its "worthless all-terrain tires", and I used it to get from the starting garage to the port to collect a load of 3 solar panels, then I did a crossmap delivery to the solar power farm. I took it through the mud pits instead of around them so I could compare the performance to that of other trucks.

I ended up winching it 2 times, completed the delivery for about 90 liters of fuel (which I estimate is about half or less than half the amount of fuel the Mastodon would have burnt), and did it in like 1/4 of the time as the guy who was driving a Mastodon to deliver the remaining panels. I also was able to drive in Automatic gear 8 in the highway stretches without being concerned about losing control.

So now I ask you: in your 1.6 hours of registered gameplay time, how much of that time has been spent testing different trucks with different configurations, to understand them in full, and to discover what exactly you need to do with each of those trucks to make it work in a particular environment?
