Beast - what's the 10 wheeler in your pics?
The Western Star 47X NF 1430 from the "Western Star Wolf pack" DLC.

I just discovered - despite using these lift axle trucks often - something new : when lifted when going through deep mud these axles actually touch the mud and stop the vehicle from sinking in further, keeping the bottom of the vehicle from dragging through the mud ( this is why most vehicles get stuck in mud )

So these lift axles ( even when lifted ) are more useful then then appear to be.

In the picture the truck can confidently ( but of course at a crawl in diff lock and AWD ) continue to drive without needing the winch. It has the JAT DLC OMD III tires installed.

Some lift axles have brakes, others do not. I think these lift axles are a bit under-appreciated as they do get you stuck often on bumps.

Oh - I see I've got one one of those, but maybe have not used it anywhere. It's been customised in the garage, so I must have. Dodgy memory.

Slight correction, that is the Western Star 49X from the DLC with the same name in the screenshot there.
47X NF 1430 is the one with the double dead axles and it does not have a Diff-Lock. (still an amazing truck tho so I def recommend it as well if you like something that feels strong without being too easy-mode)

what would be your go to vehicle for just everything in general?

For that, I'd point you at either of the Kenworth truck packs.

The Heavy-Duty class C500 from the Kenworth Dual Pack is, I'd say, the ultimate generalist at the current time. It provides really good traction with its unique all-terrain tires, it's good at handling light cranes in addition to its regular loads, it can do double medium log loads, and you can swap its tires for either chained tires or OHD tires. Plus it can be set up with a cargo rack of supplies, and it has long range capabilities as it is both fuel efficient (as long as you micromanage the gearbox instead of using it in Automatic all the time) and carries a lot of fuel. It also steers really well for a truck with always-on differential locks.

If you want something that remains "general-use" and that operates better in terrain that demands more ground clearance, I'd point you to the Highway-Class W990 instead. It can handle heavy loads and has long range capabilities, but it's rear-wheel drive so you will have to develop that skillset if you don't know how to use rear wheel drive trucks effectively. You'll also have to be mindful of loading down the rear end of the truck for optimal traction. This one also comes with a pusher axle that increases braking power and stabilizes the truck/reduces lateral sway, but you'll have to learn when to use it and when not to use it. Quite effective but it's a demanding truck to drive, and requires you to learn how to drive it in a specific manner.
i got this thing and it's been my workhorse since for most jobs, excellent vehicle and would also recommend, the rubber block rear suspension is great for real heavy loads too since it won't squat and bottom out ever
The C500 is weird, its wheels seem to small and it's ground clearance too low. Some RL versions of it look exactly like it though.

In game the low ground clearance and thus low center of gravity with a load iswhat makes it exceptionally roll resistant and exchangeable with the Western White if you need a medium truck with greater roll resistance.

That said i somewhat like the T880 too despite it is a difficult one to use off road. It lacks good stat special tires like the W990 got after an update. Maybe the next DLC ?

As it is now it tests your driving skills with not so impressive tires and rear wheel drive only.

For me the most enjoyable vehicles are the ones that are not so easy to drive, as when they are they are entirely forgettable.

exactly, the C500 makes you think about your approach and provides just the right challenge
Don't sleep on the Navistar. It can't do everything but its a beast for cargo moving.
u dont need dlc truck when u try hard, Tayga can handle all. but in my opinion Mack Defense M917.

My favorite trucks is the Kenworth 963 and Plad 450, and for scouting I still use the TUZ 420 Tatarin

Yes - the Plad is a useful truck. I'm using it a lot in Austria.

The best DLC vehicle in my opinion is the real US Military M1075A1 also known in game as the fake Russian Mastadon Zikz 612H

Oh and I'm not mad about it. Kudos to the devs for putting it in there as they did. Had they labeled it for what it actually is, there would have been licensing issues I'm sure.

Now if only they would add in the M1070 HET which can pull the earth back into orbit given enough time. The truck carries Abrahm Tanks like it's nothing (and they're 60 tons) through mud, uphill, in the rain, BOTH WAYS.

The Zikz 612H won't fit between these trees and therefor is useless in this environment. Luckily we have more fitting tools for dense tree lines and deep snow.

Zikz 612H is usable else where in those maps though.

The Plad 450 is the best truck for snow maps now alot of power, it made amur so much easier

This is like asking if a screwdriver is better than a wrench.

The answer is that it depends on the situation. Are you looking for something specific, or are you looking for a generalist?
or you can just say. mastodon. :steammocking:
