Trials Made by Masochists
I don't know what they were thinking when they made these trials man. But they are absolutely the most brutal thing in the entire game. I've spent 6 hours now trying to do The Slope which is often considered the easiest one apparently by the community. I got a youtube guide and I'm just doing my best to recreate what they do to the letter. I did just make it the furthest I've been, maybe 50 meters from the finish. Just to tip over again from seemingly nothing. I understand fully why they don't make trials anymore. They are the most astonishingly annoying thing and it really sucks that something as trivial as hood ornaments are locked behind them. I am finally just considering a save editor at this point because this is just not fun to spend this much time trying to beat a single trial knowing that if (and that's a massive if) I beat said trial there are 9 more of these monstrosities to go. Getting the Hardcore mode achievements in MudRunner wasn't even on this absolute insane level of difficulty.

I think you mean sadists not masochists, lol.

I love how the first trial on the list is also by far the most maddening of any of them. Anyone exploring the trials will undoubtedly try that one first and go "oh God".

Some hood ornaments are locked, not all of them. There's quite a few pre-unlocked vanilla ornaments and they're good. I personally like the dinosaur one.

That said, you do get to earn the bragging rights for the sabercat hood ornament or any of the other trial ornaments that I've only seen another 3 or 4 people using, in like 1500 hours of multiplayer.

If you want my thoughts on this, don't waste your time with guides, especially video guides on Youtube that require you to waste dozens of minutes watching them. Just jump in and go with your own analysis. Observe the problematic spots and understand why they give you trouble, observe the terrain, and take note of how far you can get with the fuel you have. These trials are usually an iterative process; you're unlikely to get them right the first time, but you make changes to the approach in response to what works and what doesn't, until you get it right.

Also, a complimentary tip: be as fuel-efficient as possible. When you're not doing timed trials, fuel becomes your limiting factor. Don't use AWD when you don't need it. If you have an autonomous winch and you're completely stuck, switch off the engine and just use the winch to get out (using your engine to get unstuck usually implies a big hit to your fuel consumption). I don't remember right now if you get to drive any trucks with High Gear unlocked, but if you do, remember that High Gear provides the highest fuel efficiency.

Yeah I figured fuel was going to be the most sacred of resources when I saw that guide for The Slope with the player winching a scout fuel trailer as far as they could with them lol
