I will now boycott Epic, and wait for the updated steam version. For future games ...
It is unfortunate that 'Epic Games' is using their initial financial success with their 'signature game' to split and fracture the PC gaming community with their scummy exclusivity deals. All the while whisking away so many games from platforms in which those Devs 'cut their teeth' on (such as Steam). Most of the loyal customers here are disregarded or discarded at the mere chance of acquiring increased wealth through arguably unethical practices. Greed rules the day, but integrity lasts a lifetime.
True.
40 euro for the game at launch, and 60 for game+Year1 Pass
I must've remembered it wrong. Mistakes happen, but it wasn't a mistake when the Devs kept SnowRunner off of Steam for an entire year because of lucrative contracts they or their publisher (or both, not sure) made with 'Epic Games', that was intentional.
I was going off of the US price, but that tidbit about 'full price' was indeed inaccurate. Fair enough. I had to go and look it up again and I stand corrected. You can have your minuscule victory for the day (though I wouldn't get too attached to these Devs, as they will still treat you like a disposable commodity when it suits them, just as they did to all of their Steam customers by taking the 'Epic Games' money).
As others rightfully pointed out, the original price was $40 at release on 'Epic Games' which is $10 higher than the current price, a fragment of my post has been revised to reflect that fact, yet over two-thirds of my original statement remains purely accurate. Appreciate everyone who pointed out that small error to me, now everything in it should be fully accurate.
Epic give them money (plus 12%. Who knows, maybe 0% was the deal).
Valve takes 30. (and lets face it, is swamped with ♥♥♥♥♥ £5 meme games so will sink very soon).
Where would a none xenophobe businessperson take their product?
I guarantee is this was a good old Yankee business you'd have a brown nose by now big time.
Typical, but great thread!
Indeed. What changed my personal view of 'Epic Games' from 'mild indifference' to 'outright disdain' was their scummy exclusivity deals, and now they've outright bought 'Fall Guys' and 'Rocket League.' It did nothing to improve their reputation in the eyes of a large portion of the PC community. Most of the 'QOL' features we've come to enjoy on Steam are not available on EG. That might have been okay in the early days of digital gaming platforms, but EG is late to the party, and without a large portion of the 'bells and whistles' which we've come to expect as 'the standard' in 2021 online digital gaming.
