Fix your stupid buggy crap physics engine
It's so annoying when you drive over tarred roads and your trucks takes damage from nothing, virtually nothing on the road, no rocks no nothing, and suddenly, bam, damage to suspension and tires, just because you go faster than 20mph, which apparently this physics engine can't handle.

Or I also love those instances where I have a truck parked somewhere, and I switch fomr another vehicles to this parked truck, and just the act of switching to that truck makes it take damage because buggy physics engine.

Or I also love those instances where I brush the tip of one of those fallen trees and my truck takes damage, which obviously, some half rotten tiny tree is of a much harder material than my truck of steel.

Or I ALSO love those instances where I drive over those damn flimsy wooden barricades that are all over the place and are always in the middle of the damn road and obviously respawn every couple of minutes so you have to drive over them again and again, which sometimes they even get stuck under your truck, so you need to spend 5 minutes winching yourself free again. This even happened to me with a wooden crate once! A crate, stuck under my truck, has all my wheels float in mid air, and me having to use my second truck to pull that one off the wooden crate. Amazing!

Or not to mention those tiny little pebbles on the road that also damage your truck just because you go a LITTLE faster than the physics engine can handle. 95% of the time I drive within city speed limits yet every damn thing somehow deals damage.

Never or barely had those issues in any of the previous games!

This is why I have damage turned off. Much better that way.

Actually my biggest cause of annoyance with the physics, apart from the unrealistic slow speed of the vehicles, is how brushing slightly against a crash barrier wipes out your suspension. Or your massive truck with nearly the hp of a locomotive, can't pull itself or a trailer over said crash barrier or those equally annoying tree stumps the devs decided to put everywhere, just for the hell of it!

Does that also work on hard mode? I've only played hard more so far.

Yeah, I've spent plenty of time in trucks IRL, mainly older and newer version of the Mercedes 8x8 Actros, that had standard all terrain tires, gone through plenty of mud on construction sites and quarries, only using AWD on some rare instances, but it never was as it is in the game where it feels like you're driving over super glue or something. Even the mudtires in the game have such a hard time to go through standard mud, it's ridiculous.

as i am playing with a gamepad, i think the biggest problem, after that strange glue behaviour in the mud, is that there is no much feeling of driving a heavy truck because of the lack of feedback - controller vibration, it's like shooting an MG without recoil - after all i still like this game and hopeing, one day they will fix those stuff ;)

i wouldnt see why it wouldnt.

Heh, there's a particular fallen tree in Island Lake, sticking out into the road leading from Drummond Island to the trailer store. Every time I drive into it and it stops my truck in it's tracks, and ~BOING!~ my truck bounces backwards off of it. No damage either. every time!

Actually though, in general my problem with the physics engine is it's too forgiving. I barely ever use scout cars because one of the smaller offroad trucks can go bouldering to the top of a mountain no problem. Sometimes going over little pebbles in the road will damage suspension a bit, but just as often I can fly over giant rocks that should cut my truck open like a can opener.

Also, this is a minor enough complaint that it doesn't deserve it's own thread but I miss the 'clumpy' mud from Spintires. Even though it looked a little jank sometimes I loved watching it glom on and then wash off in a stream or puddle.

after thinking abnout it, OP is right... lets fix the physics engine. hitting a boulder doesnt cause some body damage and then we move around it.. it caves the front end, snaps suspension, and bends the frame. a roll over doesnt just mess up the body, it cna crush the cab totaly, bend the frame, and destroy the suspension. high centering can destroy the transmission and transfer case. a hard jump or bad fall can snap axles. getting stuck can cause you to snap an axle if you suddenly get grip while spinning tires. and dont forget those tires.. they wear out and as you climb through rough terain and mud pits filled with god knows what, you can cut them. and lets fix them.. ALL trucks would carry SOME kind of spare.. and the spare for your 36 inch jeep will NOT fit the 51 inch truck that just blew a tire. hell, your jeep wont even fit the chevy because of lug pattern. and "repair parts" doesnt work. you blow an alternator on a big truck, you need to get a compatable replacement, not just generic parts..

TLDR, its a game. quit complaining about the small bugs that make it innacurate and be glad they dont make it FULLY accurate

So I had the White Western Star 4964 loaded with medium logs along with the new medium log trailer. Of course the trailer jams immediately so I detach, reposition using the winch to pull it in close. I reattach the trailer and both the truck and the trailer spin around, I'm talking a full on break dance session 360, throwing the logs everywhere and both the truck and trailer flip over on their sides which of course stalls out the engine. It was straight out of a cartoon style type of ridiculousness.

This wasn't the first time this particular truck has done some very strange physics feats but I'm done. Hadn't played the game in months and wanted to zone out and relax and less than 15 minutes this crap happens.

There are so many more issues like that, and the fact that your truck's rear will start to break out as soon as you go more than 40mph just proves that the physics engine can't handle anything going "too fast". There's a great community made map called Highway Hauling, it has flat roads with no obstacles on them, you can test it there, the trucks in this game become uncontrollable at 40mph.

How do you turn the damage off?
dandinks Feb 15, 2023 @ 11:04am
the worst one is when you hit a tiny little branch on the ground and it stops your truck dead in its tracks, and if you happen to be turning its almost guaranteed that your truck will flip
PrettyFunkedUp Feb 15, 2023 @ 12:10pm
Or when you hit a road sign and it wedges in a mud guard or something and stops you dead and leaves you anchored to that spot
