The best types of tires?
I don't care about on road performance and only care about not slowing down/sinking into mud.

So what are the best tires for this? Off road? Mud? Chain? Just install the tires that are lowest on the list/the last to unlock?

Offroads are the fastest in general and the most fuel efficient if you don't dive in a mud trap. Mudtires are the slowest in any mud, shallow or deep but will usually prevent you from being completely stuck

Each tire "number" has a slightly better rating in either asphalt dirt or mud, there should be resources on the Internet to find which one does what

There is a google spreadsheet posted by @Top in the following thread that has info about many of the trucks, gearboxes, tires etc - see TABs at bottom of screen!

Ninja moment.

Alright, thanks for the info. Seems the tires with slightly better mud/deep snow performance are the way to go since everyone agrees getting stuck is the biggest risk.

Use Off Road tires as a default tire and GO AROUND deep mud and snow.

Reason : Mud tires slip on dirt roads and all kinds of solid surface ( so > 90 % of all surface in a map ) and cost you more time and fuel. Most deep mud/snow can and should be avoided. Only when you ABSOLUTELY need to go through deep snow/mud THEN you need Mud tires, and they only marginally will be better then Off Road tires. ( especially for the double wheeled axles that have good low wheel pressure too )

its not just the tires it depends on the speed you go at you want to stay in low gear mode so you dont spin out in mud/snow

You can't not sink into mud. With the way physics work in Snowrunner trucks would need 3-4x more wheels to not sink in mud.

The reason why mudtires work is because they have high grip stat for mud, not because they prevent you from sinking deeper.

That's one way to look at it, but another way is that it's a game with levels designed to be finishable. So any deep mud is almost guaranteed to have some winching aids, or can simply be avoided.

Then you have not been paying attention to one of the functions of raising suspension.

This is easiest to notice in scouts : one that is not raised will sink and get stuck in deep mud or snow DESPITE having the best mud tires because the drag resistance of all the stuff under the vehicle dragging through mud/snow is higher then the friction the mud tires can generate.

Applying a raise which lifts the bottom of the vehicle away from most of the muck will result in the vehicle being able to keep moving. So then the raise, and not the tires are the factor that enable it to keep moving in deep mud or snow.

You of course will never notice the difference if you ALWAYS apply a raise like many players will as soon as it is available. Then you will miss such details.

In lake Kovd there is an infamous example - around the village near the tunnel entrance - of both a snow sinkhole that will trap ANY vehicle no matter it's tires or size wheels AND power line poles with NO winch points. You can't winch yourself out. The conclusion it you should not be there, and cannot trust roads.

This is on purpose. It will force you to look for routes over the lake and not follow roads/land routes.

The devs never repeated that by my knowing, but "made to be finished" is only the case if you so do not insists all routes should be drivable, and go find routes that are.
