48.7GB update hidden behind a 26MB announced download?

C'mon devs - how about including information like that in the first line of the update announcement? Crap like this really pisses people off - especial content creators doing a "quick" update before a scheduled livestream that then starts late.

I had a problem with the update too. Small patch claimed corrupt files and then it downloaded a larger amount after it verified files.

dl was 270 and quick it then took like 5 mins to patch it into the 48gig install. steam now shows both on the dl screen side by side instead of just the dl and a progress bar

its a patch that patches the install, thats why its 40+ gb, its PATCHING 40gb+. its not a "file-replace or add" patch.

Ya i have not lan. Only smartphone as USB modem with 50 Gb per month limit. And manual download. And i see 30Gb downloaded today, when asked 200 Mb! Developers WTF ???

I don't necessarily understand the difference. It still takes awhile, and demands a lot of writes from the drive, and it does this without initial prompt. I see nothing surprising about him getting upset. I just ran the update myself. It initially prompted me with a 200 meg download, and then I observed my drive write nearly 50 gigs. If a game is suddenly going to write the same amount of data I usually write over an 8-12 hour session of work, then I'd certainly like a warning. Wouldn't you?

its a better system then it was in the past though, before you had to download full files before patching and alot of players didn't have that temporary install space

The difference is for the people complaining about how much cellular data was being used. They seem to think it took the whole 50, when in reality it only downloaded the number it said it would.

I see. Limited data doesn't usually cross my mind. My brain's on write endurance and time spent. Makes sense, if limited data is his concern. Though that's not necessarily what I expect from someone calling himself a "content creator". I am a content creator for a living. So I would have imagined his brain would be in the same place mine was. If he is a streamer, then he will likely upload the size of that update in a single stream. Makes it sound out of place for downloaded data due to limits to be a concern, doesn't it?
