Seeing a visually beat-up truck in hard mode doesn't make me proudly think of a rowdy workhorse, it makes me wonder if somethin's wrong with my graphics card!
It's not about the visual damage itself, it's about HOW it is implemented.
Yeah i do this too......constant repairing would cost too much but this is tolerable.
And like this you will make an effort not to bang up the truck too much.
It would be nice to have the option to pay for individual components at a lower price than to pay one lump sum to repair everything. Alternatively, have repair points on service trailers repair cosmetic damage. Spintires was this way.
It's annoying to be driving carefully and then random phantom damage to the suspension and tires by half buried pebbles or sticks. Then the frame of the trucks looks like a bent paperclip and the only way to cosmetically fix it is a full repair at the garage. Small rocks bending the frame of the truck.... laughable.
Small things like this would make the game more enjoyable but they'll never add it to the game.
In civilised countries, a "beat-up work truck" would be prohibited from being used as too many body panels would be in a condition hazardous to other drivers (panels falling off while driving etc.) and drivers would be subject to losing their driving license for taking such trucks on the road.
This develops an expectation to see near-pristine trucks even in non-highway areas like quarries and forestries. Dirt on a truck due to use is a completely different topic than damage state.
This thread was pretty useless, no offense, but there weren't any real solutions offered
As others mentioned, I tend to repair when I transfer a truck to another region. I avoid it within a region, because it can become very costly. It sounds like you figured it out, but in New Game + you can disable cosmetic damage if I am remembering correctly. That does not help in the hard mode save though. If I weren't so deep into my hard mode save I would have not started one. I would have began in New Game + and never looked back.
Especially certain front bumpers end up looking more like a graphics glitch than affected by wear and tear after just a random minor 1 engine damage incident from touching the ground or similar.
