Chained Tyres + Mud Tyres
To my knowledge, the chained tyres and mud tyres are the best for the Alaska map, how much do they cost though?

You practically only need chained tires when having to climb slippery ice roads or slopes.

You do not really need them on frozen lakes and rivers and they do nothing beneficial in snow, unlike real chains.

So when you actually have to go through medium snow mud tires are also the best snow tires and the best choice. For shallow snow or mud and dirt Off Road tires are the best. In snow maps it heavily depends on the route you take what tire you need. And you should read ""need" as "saves time" and not so much getting stuck.

You are not as handicapped with Off Road tires ( chained tires are exactly that on every other surface but ice ) and US trucks that can only mount those as you think you are. You will just have to avoid deep snow, and you should do that anyway.

What Beast of War said. You can do most of the snow maps with mud tyres - you can usually get some grip on the side of the road on steep icy roads, and if you can't, station a donkey truck with chain tyres at each slope and get a tow.

Off-road tires are my preferred tire choice for Alaska. There are only a few places where chained tires are of much use and even in those cases most trucks can manage those spots without chained tires. There are more areas where mud tires might be preferred but in most places off-road tires are completely sufficient. The bigger the wheels the less important it is to have mud tires.

I got into the habit of taking 2 trucks - one with chains and one without. I got the impression that the chained tyres dug into the snow too much.

This is true...with diff lock on you can often get enough traction with only wheels on 1 side on the ground next to a slippery road.

But mind you the most difficult snow maps will prevent this by having a guard rail placed next to the road. Or the road tilts to 1 side so much you will slide off it without chains.

As far as I noticed there is no snow in snowrunner, only dirty mud and white mud. So I always go for big mud tires in snow ares and ONLY use chains when I have to ice climb.
