- The actual "snow" maps are the most difficult and frustrating ones. ( Alaska excluded )
- The first DLC seasons are the most difficult and frustrating ones.
- If you liked the base game ( which is very mild ) the last 4 seasons are much like it.
- Some seasons are only 1 or 2 maps. I feel these are the least enjoyable ones.
- One DLC is a race circuit, one is a farming area. You will see in advertisement pics which is which. Both are very poor in my opinion. Some race missions require multiplay, so cannot be completed when playing solo. You only get a worthless ( cannot carry cargo ) race truck and a race beetle. You can skip that DLC without consequence. If you do not want Kirovets tractors ( that can only tow a trailer in other seasons ) you can skip the farm DLC too.
Side note : a lot of DLC 8 wheelers and other "monster" trucks with huge wheels make all seasons pretty tame. Above mentioned difficulty is only when you use vehicles that came with season order of appearance.
* The reason there are so many "overpowered" mods is because of the region DLCs.
If you consider it worthwhile to be extremely frustrated while playing, then the Kola and Amur region DLCs are worth it. Tennessee (the race one) doesn't look like it's worth it. I kind of enjoyed Belozersk (the farm one), as it adds a new activity to the game. The others can be annoyingly short. Sometimes the trucks added with the region make up for things, sometimes they don't.
* Most of the truck-only DLCs are pretty subjective on their value. If you like the trucks provided, go for it. But, if you enjoy frustration, several of the vehicle DLCs give you access to vehicles that will take much of the challenge out of the early maps, at least for Normal mode, where buying the DLC includes getting a free example of each of the trucks in the pack.
* The sum total of the objective benefit of the tire DLC is that it makes *a* scout less likely to tip. Again, if you like the looks of the tires, go for it.
ignore the negative reviews its only players conplaining of existing bugs not fixed yet and the bug they are talking about doesn't impact the game THAT much all missions can still be completed, also players with lack of experience progressing the roads because they have the wrong truck setup
I don't want to get pay to win giga trucks with uber treads and stomp old content.
just ignore what the garage comes with first time ya look at it, and use only the vehicles you find around the maps as you play, that will give ya th best balance of challenge
Amur, feels like you drive RC controlled toy over artificially made track. Amur is also not difficult, like many say, it is just badly designed. That means you have to gather a lot of money (in hard mode) in other seasons and import trucks and a lot of fuel from them to start the game.
A bit more info about seasons I finished:
- 1 Kola Penisula - is quite ok. The fact that you are required to drive a crane with load on it, is quite disturbing to me.
- 2 Yukon - nothing special, it has some very strange climbing parts and moving some cargo (cabins) from one place to another.
- 3 Wisconsin - good, with interesting trucks,
- 4 Amur - they went fully to "arcade game" here. No realism, just jumping over high rocks with "russian special - ZiKZ 605"
5,6,7,8 I didn't play
- 9 Ontario - burned forest, exactly what it is :-)
- 10 British Columbia - nice, with interesting trucks
- 11 Scandinavia - good, with colorful maps. I liked the view on these maps the most. Annoying part is not properly implemented gravity. You go down the slope and cant gain any speed (while you should have troubles to stop the truck).
- 12 - I don't have yet
5 - Don - Like any region, there are some specific difficult spots, but otherwise it's easier than Teymyr. Literally focused on Tatra trucks, which are decent, but not amazing.
6 - Maine - Harder than you'll expect, especially since you have to fix the garage before you get full function out of it. I think it was created just to thumb their noses at people using the Zikz 605 for "easy mode." Added new lumber cargo types. I'm told the little logging tractor thingie is great, but it's one of those articulating hinge vehicles that just bugs me to drive, so I don't really know. The three axle Russian truck, though, is pretty sweet.
7 - Tennessee - I passed on this one. Adds racing.
8 - Belozersk - Some bits are fairly easy for Snowrunner. Some bits are pretty rough. Added farming and tractors. Biggest thing I can say in favor of it is that it's four maps, instead of the two that have been common for the DLC regions.
I'm self-limiting. I turned off the starting DLC vehicles, and on Michigan I only use the "old" trucks and stuff I find on Michigan, MINUS Alaska vehicles. When I went to Alaska I expanded my arsenal to include more trucks, but still only vanilla (and I left a bunch unpurchased because I forgot, because the Twinsteer can finish like 90% of Alaska for you).
On Tamyr I restricted myself to only the 'old' Russian vanilla vehicles. When I get to Kola I'm going to expand to the DLC vehicles for Kola, and the more modern Russian vehicles.
