Black screen freeze on launch

Launching the game simply leaves me on a black, unresponsive screen. Pressing or clicking anything brings up the typical windows "Not Responding: Close/Wait for program" popup.

Waiting long enough lets the game progress into the main menu, with a few more freezes on the way.
Waiting even longer will let you navigate into a save, only for the game to continue freezing as you try to play.
It is not stuttering like with frame drops, the game entirely freezes and stops responding for up to 15 minutes at a time.

This is a problem that has gotten progressively worse over the past few months. Restarting my PC used to fix it, but no longer works.

My PC is more than capable at running the game above 60FPS (But I've framerate-limited it) and has up-to-date drivers.

EDIT: Game freezes only when swapping TO the game - ie launching, alt+tabbing or clicking into the game window.
Have tried multiple display settings through the game and my graphics drivers, no solution yet.

I have the same problem, game started before directly, but now goes to blacscreen and after 5min it starts, shows logo and so on and the stuck in the Loading screen.
I have updated everything. And on my steamdeck it works flawlessly.

dang was really hoping this would fix it. Installed and still having same issue. Such BS
I have a 12900k, 32gb ram, rtx 4090, and a 2TB NVME SSD and this game can't even launch right. what a joke

For me I load up the game and then after a couple seconds the game closes, sometimes when the game closes, steam closes too, also sometimes i'll be able to reach the main menu but once i click continue the loading screen shows and after a couple seconds the game closes. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, restarting my PC, nothing works. I'm either thinking a problem with the game or a problem with my PC.

Worked for me when all others would not. Same kinda stuff, everything else works fine, PC should be able to run it 3x over, etc.

The guy does some stuff that doesnt really make sense to me, but mainly just goes to steam properties and enables "Compatability for Windows 8". Sounds dumb, looks dumb, im Win11, but it works now.

That seems like an odd way to start the game .... I just open Steam then start Snowrunner from there, or sometimes just double-click the shortcut to the executable. I always shut down the game and Steam when I'm done. Do you not properly close down or exit the game?

It's all very inconsistent, I've launched the game just fine today, after a fresh PC startup.
Sometimes it's not like that, sometimes a PC restart doesn't fix it, sometimes it works after I play something else and come back to Snowrunner later in the day, it doesn't make any sense.

For the record, I launch Snowrunner through Steam the typical way, so I'm not sure what you mean by "odd way to start the game."

I also fully close Steam and shut down my computer each night, so I've got that base covered already.

maybe you have troubles with the virtual memory.

for some reason, in some pc the size assigned to it is too small.

you can check it and change it if necessary

edit: if when you start the game, it doesn't come to the front by itself, create and icon in the desktop, and run it from there

oh, i thought it was the opposite thing :D i had the problem it didn't come by itself to the front, so i have to click in the icon on taskbar, or alt-tabbing, to get it.

I had this same problem, what was causing it? my F.... corsair keyboard... try something with the icue software if u have that...
